Bobby Kanka Has Committed To Michigan
The Michigan Wolverines picked up a commitment today from 2025 in-state DL recruit Bobby Kanka:

Kanka is a 4* to Rivals and a 3* to 247, while he has not been rated by either On3 or ESPN yet. It's still early in the 2025 cycle and full national rankings haven't been completely put together at this time. He's from Pinckney, MI, originally but plays in Howell for Howell HS, listed at 6'4", 263 lbs. The early sense is that Kanka is pegged to be a 3Tech prospect on Mike Elston's defensive line. Michigan had been courting Kanka for some time with MSU as the other main suitor, so there is little surprise that this one got done as quickly as it did. Kanka is now the 3rd commit in Michigan's 2025 class, joining CB Chris Ewald and LB Mantrez Walker, both 4*s, though Walker's recruitment is far from over despite the commitment.

Welcome, Mr. Kanka! Go Blue.
Gotta love the picture with Dad.
Some dreams are meant to be!
Welcome, Bobby! His dad was a star at Hillsdale College and Bobby is a former teammate of current walk-on defensive end Charlie Lovell.
Livingston County guy here. I believe Bobby will be the first Howell High kid to play for U-M. They haven't had a whole lot of Division 1 players. They had a fullback named Travis Wilson who played for both MSU and Kansas State back in the 1990s, a lineman for Purdue named Loukas Kovanis in the 1980s and a few guys who played in the MAC. They also had a guy named Jon Mack who played his college ball at Northwood and was a punter in the USFL.
Pinckney gave us Charlie Lovell and Brighton has given us Drew Henson, Dave Pearson, Clint Copenhaver and more. Mark Messner played his freshman year at Hartland before transferring to Catholic Central. Fowlerville had wrestler Adam Coon, but no football guys at U-M. Fowlerville's Charlie Gehringer also played baseball at U-M a century ago.
Glad to see a Howell guy at Michigan. Go Blue, Bobby!
I went to Howell High from 1973 - 1977. During my time there, the biggest sports name was Dave Hibner, who in 1977 was drafted by the Texas Rangers (1st round, 9th pick). He never made it in the league, though. There's a story from 2017 about him. The link is here.

Great reminder! Dave Hibner was a legend. And like Bobby Kanka's dad, he played football at Hillsdale.
Commits come in pairs. Or was it trips? In which case, who's next?
