The Ace Pod 1.10: Natural Blues
This week’s podcast is, as always, sponsored by the law offices of E. Jason Blankenship, whose website is now fully operational.
Today’s mailbag isn’t quite as wide-ranging as last week’s—that would be difficult—but still hits on a number of mostly football-related topics, including:
- What would make you content with the season?
- Is Don Brown a “genius or a has-been” or somewhere in between?
- How does the offense move forward, literally and figuratively?
- Which player from the last 30 years would you add to the team?
- Who looked the best in their uniform?
- Favorite version of the NCAA video game
- The increasingly generic stadium experience
- Who’s the most important basketball recruiting target?
- Getting your eye off the ball
- Why I eat like a trash panda on game days
Consume! Also rate and review, if you’re feeling generous.

I’m just looking for signs that they didn’t take a year with nine returning starters and a five-star coming in at running back and light it on fire.

I am really suspicious that Harbaugh was attempting to make the switch in the Wisconsin game. I hope McCaffrey can get healthy and stay that way because Shea can’t even see blitheringly wide open guys half the time.

I am always pleasantly surprised when Pony and the D show up against any moderately good team.
Giving up a 3rd and a billion conversion is concerning. It seems on 3rd and long Pony would rather try to make it 4th and longer than just get off the field.

That's a brilliant nickname for Don Brown. You think of that all by yourself?

Numerous people on here have called Brown a one trick pony (not inaccurately, it would seem). So it's basically a nickname he earned, but I am glad you like it.
Thanks so much.

Poor guy. Your life must really suck.

If I could add any player from the last 30 years to this current roster, it would be one of the following:
1. Tom Brady - Thinking specifically about the "toughness" the team around him had in the Penn State and Alabama comeback wins....and the near comeback against MSU.
2. Mike Hart - Multiple 200+ rushing yard games as a freshman. Picked up blocks. Didn't fumble (until the bowl game).
3. Alan Branch - Michigan needs more beef up front.
4. Maurice Hurst - Sooo quick off the snap.
Honorable mentions to Ty Wheatley, LaMarr Woodley and Charles Woodson (just because).

Who would I add to this team? One player? Denard Robinson. Half the reason this offense is stagnant is a lack of QB run threat. Robinson would absolutely thrive in this. If I have to keep the QB then how about any offensive line from the 90's. That would fix a bunch too. Charbonet is great when he has a hole to run through. Give that man some decent blocking. Shea was decent when the OL jelled last year. So either get a line or get the best running QB we've ever had. Either way they win damn near every game

My first thought was Henson as well. As Ace said, he'd be a complete game changer in the pass and run game.
Also hard for me not to think of Jake Long every time this type of question comes up.

If I could add one player to this team, it would definitely be Tom Brady.
QB is the biggest weakness on this team and Brady was excellent in college before he became the GOAT in the pros.
In 1999, he led Michigan to wins over Notre Dame, Purdue (with Drew Brees), Wisconsin, Penn St, Ohio St, and Alabama in the Orange Bowl (where he earned MVP).
He was a great leader and we really need leadership with this team. We could run Harbaugh’s offense. Gattis could coach the wide receivers. Brady would be fantastic getting to the ball to our playmakers.
