Scheduling

With the cfp showing it likes fewer losses than championships and strength of schedule should we cancel our upcoming home and homes against p5 teams? Had 2016 psu played akron instead of pitt they would have been in the playoff over osu. Had 2017 osu played kent state instead of oklahoma they too would have been in the playoff over alabama. So it seems the best schedule is one that minimizes losses, we get plenty of schedule strength from our division. Edit: the big ten plays 9 conference games while the sec and acc play 8. Plus in 2020 and 2021 we play washington and virginia tech both years. I'm all for playing a tough schedule but some point the schedule might work against you when the committee rewards fewer losses over conference champions. In the big ten east our schedule will always be tough enough. We don't need to make it brutal by playing two non conference p5 teams when the committee doesnt care.

I would call Washington & VA Tech tomorrow and cancel those 2 series.

I would also get rid of ND

Wisconsin has proven time after time that it pays to schedule the pansies.  Ped St. as well.

It’s apparent that playing patsies is the smarter play for the big boys. Trying to prove something early in the season is never helpful, unless you happen to win the touch OOC game.

The only benefit to scheduling interesting games is that it appeals to recruits...but not as much as having a likely chance to compete for the NC.

I'll guess it is for ticket sales.  Lord knows, football must support 47 other sports (or whatever).

I disagree with the WE are Michgan crowd who say to be the best you've got to beat the best.  With Michigan's crazy scheduling , it is not likely that we will ever beat the best at the end of a season, because we'll never make it that far.  A B1G coach once told me that a team can only get up for 3 or 4 games a season.  Think about that.

At least going into the season.

1985 - ND, SC, Mary were all ranked

1997 - Colorado and ND were ranked

2003 - ND, at Oregon (loss - who can forget the "crowned field" excuse)

2011 - ND, SDSU

I don't want the Brian Kelly excuse because he has to play USC and Stanford every year,

Even a NC loss on the road isn't a killer - Washington's weak schedule almost cost them the playoffs last year.

Gonna be the worst offseason of all time. Guaranteed. Only competitor is after the joke ending of the 1973 season, but the existance of the internet will make offseason 2018 absolute hell on a new level.
