LSJ calling for MSU President Lou Anna Simon's Resignation

Submitted by UMgradMSUdad on

Lou Anna Simon is no longer the right person to lead Michigan State University.

While Simon’s 12-year tenure has been marked by numerous accomplishments, there is one stark and significant failure that now overpowers all else: MSU’s inability to keep women safe from sexual assault and harassment on campus.

That failure belongs to Simon and her team. The time has come to hold her accountable.

The Nassar thing happened on his watch (along w/ all the other Dantonio / Izzo sexual predator stuff).

Either he knew about it and didn't do anything (unforgiveable) or it went on under his nose and he didn't have a clue (also unforgiveable.

I guess the buck stops w/ the gymnastics coach and the powers that be are protecting Hollis.

The editorial asks the Board of Trustees to fire her if she does not resign. The Board responded by defending her. I don't live in Michigan anymore, but if I did, I would never vote for one of those Trustees. It is abhorrent that they are taking her side in this over the numerous victims of sexual assault.

The Board of Trustees disagrees. LSJ published their retort:

You can read it for yourself. Circling the wagons.

I will say, the two law firms MSU hired to represent itself -- Skadden Arps (a mongo-expensive, top-line national firm) and Miller Canfield (probably the top firm in Michigan) -- are costing a pretty penny, and undoubtedly telling the University to batten down the hatches.
