ESPN Team Efficiencies Update, 2017 Week 6
The updated ESPN team efficiency ratings have been posted and the Wolverines drop eleven spots from #22 to #33 overall based on its appearance in This Week in Schadenfreude. Maybe you're featured there?
The U-M splits are offense, #105 (down from #97); defense, #4 (same as last week); and special teams, #26 (up from #35).
Of U-M's 2017 opponents, Ohio State maintains the mantel of most efficient in the B1G at #4 (up from #7), one ahead of next-best Penn State at #5 (up from #10). Meanwhile Wisconsin inched up to #14 from #15. Indiana, at #22 (up from #26) moves ahead Michigan. Quite disgustingly, Sparty, at #32 (up from #53), also moved ahead of Michigan.
Overall, Michigan dropped behind two of its opponents this week. So, M remains rated lower than five of its opponents for this season. Two are in the top ten (same as last week), 5 are in the upper quartile of the ratings (same as last week); 9 are in the upper half (same as last week); and two are in the lowest quartile (Cincinnati and LOLRutgerz dropped just below the threshhold).
Here's a brief synopsis of the ratings, or click the link above to see the whole list &/or sort by category:

Clearly, our defense needs to score more.

Some of the other less-than-flattering tidbits about the offense from TeamRankings:
Points Per Game - 27.2 - #69 in Division I
Yards Per Game - 385.8 - #75 in Division I
Yards Per Play - 5.2 - #90 in Division I
3rd Down Conv. - 34.62% - #90 in Division I
There's more, and they don't break it out by conference so there's a lot of differences of tenths of a yard or so in these rankings, but some of the current stats make me look at the schedule and say, "Yeeeeesh..."

Pretty sure this metric no longer applies to Maryland and their 11th string QB.
Also, Indiana at 22?
Additionally, Florida sucks.

Fine. Just as long as we're better than our primary rival, Rutgers.

This would be funny if our offense wasn't so bad.
