Thnks for posting! I meant to put this up earlier but didn't have access to computer -
Lacrosse enters the gauntlet that is Big Ten play with a game against the Maryland Terrapins in College Park today at 2. The easy part of the schedule is way back in the rearview mirror now and Michigan’s final 5 games - all conference foes - are against teams currently ranked #9, #10, #4, #13 and #2. It’s the best conference in the country. If our boys can steal or 2 or 3 victories they can get themselves into the B1G tournament in early May. It’s a tall order but not impossible.
Last year Michigan took Maryland to the brink in a snowy, low-scoring dogfight of a game in Michigan Stadium but lost 8-7. They lost in heartbreaking fashion to boot. Tied 7-7 late in the game, Michigan had two opportunities to go ahead but were stonewalled by spectacular saves by Maryland’s superb goalie. The second save led to a fast break for Maryland who scored with 5 seconds left. Michigan should be psyched up to get another crack at them.
The good news: our boys are much improved. The bad news: Maryland is still really good. In March they dropped games to a good ND team and a perplexing Villanova squad who is starting to roll now. The Terps waxed North Carolina last week in Chapel Hill in a re-match of last year’s championship game winning 15-7. They out-ran the Heels and totally shut down their high-powered offense. Maryland always has an excellent defense and good face off men. Michigan’s got its work cut out for it.
I would be psyched if they pull off the upset. GO BLUE!!
GOALLLL! King!
Breaks the twerp 5-goal run.
Schlosser is an absolute star but I have seen too many turnovers by midfielders. They have had trouble with their sideline passing and also protecting the ball.
