Bracketology Updates

Submitted by True Blue 9 on

Just a quick update on where things stand with the Men's bball team. Both CBS and ESPN updated their Bracketology sections this morning. CBS has us as a 10 seed (up from an 11 last week) and playing against Florida in Salt Lake City.

Joe Lunardi at ESPN has us as his second to last team in, playing against Pitt in the play-in game in Dayton.

Feel free to add any other updates you see on other sites (Bracket Matrix hasn't updated since Saturday morning). I think we'll make a nice jump if we can beat Indiana on Thursday!

It's the hip thing to do to rag on MBB, and i'm not trying to argue that they are great.  I don't think they have been playing great, but its not unreasonable for them to at least be on the bubble/have a chance to make it. Six of the seven losses are to RPI Top-50 teams and the committee seems to put a lot of weight on who you lose to. And the other loss is to Iowa, who isnt good but is at least a P5 team and not a team from a one-bid league.

Only a couple of Top-50 wins, but a few 50-100 wins and a lot of chances coming up to add to both. It's a weak bubble for sure, and UM hasnt done anything terrible yet to keep them out of contention.

The team has not won a legit road game this entire year.  That's probably going to be a minor issue the rest of the way.  (Yes some neutral floor wins in there)

  • @SC 61-46
  • @UCLA doom
  • @Iowa 86-83 (close!)
  • @Ill 85-69
  • @Wisc 68-64

Looking ahead

  • @MSU
  • @IND
  • @MINN
  • @RUT
  • @NW
  • @NEB

First 2 are our house of horrors, NW has a solid team this year, MN is ok at home.  So that leaves RUT and NEB as our chances.

It would be one thing to be projected as an 11 seed 2 weeks from now.  It is not a good sign we are projected an 11 seed BEFORE the hardest stretch of our schedule.

Not looking good for this team.

And sadly, the goal posts have moved yet again for JB and this program.  Just getting into the tournament is the baseline for success it seems around here.  Sad.

Actually maybe slightly above that, is what you're referring to right now with our program. Sure, our peaks have been quite high at times (Final Fours every decade since 60's except 2000's), but that's largely the result of extreme overachieving in the tourney in the years we actually make it. Truth be told, Beilein's responsible for 1/4 (!!!) of our NCAA tourney bids. That tells you how infrequently we've been there
