Cal was an NFL factory under Tedford. Even Dykes managed to produce a no. 1 NFL draft pick.
Having said that, I suspect academics is the main reason behind this decision. More power to him.

is an excellent school. There are some majors available at Cal (ie. undergrad business administration) that Stanford does not have.

The funny thing is that this is the kid whose coach said he would "100% sign with Notre Dame." He said it was "no doubt about it."
