OT - Olympics / USWNT vs. Sweden

Submitted by skurnie on

I figured I'd create a thread for this since the USWNT is playing Sweden in the knockout stage but we can use it for general Olympic action today.

The match is in the 6th minute, 0-0.

TV: NBCSN

Streaming: NBC App

Lineup: Solo, O'Hara, Johnston, Sauerbrunn, Klingenberg, Long, Brian, Lloyd, Heath, Morgan, Pugh.

In an entirely different note, just watched the men's 49er race in sailing. Denmark was winning a wonderful duel with New Zealand to take first place in the first race... and then didn't know where the finish of the race was, had to turn around to go back, and wound up in 8th. It's a long regatta, but that could cost them a medal.

Feel bad for the US women.  Because of the timing ot events, the Womens World Cup and the Olympics are back to back years.  That means they are out of the national spotlight and an afterthought for three full years now.

Yeah it is bad. No victory tours, no GMA/Today show or talk shows.

I wonder if the professional league will stay together, you got to expect waning interest and attendance.

3 years is a long time in sports I bet 1/2 this team won't be on the next world cup team.

Former USWNT Heach Coach Pia Sundhage just knows how to beat her former team. Since she left the USWNT on September 1, 2012 to become head coach of Sweden’s Women’s National Team, she hasn’t lost to the USWNT in four matches.

Here’s how the USWNT has fared against Sweden since March 11, 2009:

August 12, 2016 - 1-1 Draw; Loss on PK’s 3-4 in Brazil (Olympics Quarterfinals)
June 12, 2015 - 0-0 Draw in Canada (World Cup Group)
March 7, 2014 - 0-1 Loss in Portugal (Algarve Cup Group)
March 11, 2013 - 1-1 Draw in Portugal (Algarve Cup Group)
June 16, 2012 - 3-1 Win in Sweden (Sweden Invitational)
March 7, 2012 - 4-0 Win in Sweden (Algarve Cup 3rd Place Match)
November 19, 2011 - 1-1 Draw in Arizona (Friendly)
January 21, 2011 - 1-2 Loss in China (Four Nations Tournament)
July 17, 2010 - 3-0 Win in Connecticut (Friendly)
July 13, 2010 - 1-1 Draw in Omaha, Nebraska (Friendly)
March 1, 2010 - 2-0 Win in Portugal (Algarve Cup Group)
March 11, 2009 - 0-0 Draw; Loss on PK’s 3-4 in Portugal (Algarve Cup Final)

FUN FACT: The coach with the highest winning percentage for the USWNT is Greg Ryan at .900 with 45 wins, nine draws and one loss from 2005-2007. Look where he coaches now.
