The other Brian, Magnus, TomVH, Tim 2011 recruiting ?

Submitted by ToledoWolverine on
Guys I wonder if you can, and will, tell us who the priority recruits are for 2011. I hear lots of names being tossed around, but are there any that are fight to the finish, balls to the wall, gotta haves, that the coaches are targetting? I don't mean to slight other recruits, I just wonder who the "big fish" are this year. Also I would like to know how hard will UM recruit Lawrence Thomas with him seeming to be such a pipe dream? Note: why any serious football player would want to go to Michigan State over Michigan is a total effing mystery to me, bias aside, what have they done in the last 20 years. 2 sucky seasons does not equal a lifetime of suck, as anyone who is a HS senior has endured, rooting for the green weenies.

This is a little repetitive, but here's my list: - Trey DePriest - Kris Frost (Magnus: We're in really good shape with him. He LOVES Michigan) - I think they really like Anthony Zettel. He fits a lot of what they look for in a lineman. - DeAnthony Arnett - It's going to be a battle for him. We really need to show him either, A) Tate can effectively get the WR's the ball, and open up the offense, or B) That Devin is the future, and he'll be given the reigns soon. (This isn't my point of view, it's what DeAnthony told me directly. Whether you agree, or not, it's how he feels). - The Dr. Philips kids. Other names to watch: - Brennen Beyer - It's only a matter of time before he commits. - Ray Hamilton TE - Michigan really likes him. He's 6'4 220 already. - AJ Jordan - WR from Trotwood. He's really good friends with Roy Roundtree and Mike Shaw. They tell him to come to Michigan a lot, and he's high on us. I think he would be a perfect WR for us. - Jarrell Oliver - RB from the same school as Woolfolk, Herron, and Stonum. He really likes Michigan, and talks to Troy quite a bit. - There's going to be a lot of focus on linemen, both defense and offense. I think they've done a good job already with getting offers out, and creating some buzz among some top guys.

I just don't see much of a chance for UM with Arnett, not saying he will be at ND but he just isn't a strong fit for RR's offense. He doesn't want to be a decoy for 40 rushes a game

I get what you are saying, but the traditional RichRod offense has incorporated more of a downfield passing attack than was shown in the 2009 Michigan offense. We didn't have a player last year who ran deep routes that you could count on to go up and get the ball over the CB. Arnett would be that player. Certain limitations(Frosh QB, et al.) kept the offense from showing serious progress last year.

In the last four games of the season, with an OL that sucked at pass protection and a QB with a busted shoulder, Roy Roundtree caught 30 passes for 390 yards. As usual, people unfamiliar with Rodriguez and unfamiliar with what's going on at Michigan are assuming the Pat White offense is all RR can do, and that Michigan will run the ball 70% of the time while using their wideouts as glorified blockers. That's simply not the case.

It was kind of "pick your poison" with Michigan's offense. The backfield wasn't healthy, they couldn't count on an injured Forcier to run the ball, and the quarterbacks couldn't make the proper reads in the run game, anyway. I don't think you can take either 2008 or 2009 and say "This is what the run-pass split will be." There have been extenuating circumstances each year.

Nearly half his yards came from 4 plays, and what's left over still does not describe a high powered passing attack. Even with that offensive line and tate's shoulder he still completed over 60% of his passes and the last 2 games had him throwing the most completions all year, so how is that any excuse at all? Arnett is one of the top WRs in the country this year, why would he want to go to an offense that only threw the ball 26% of the time last year? And none of that is actually based on RR's offense at WV, only on what he has done and shown at UM

Where do you get 26%? Do they teach arithmetic at ND? They don't at Michigan because they assume the students learned that in elementary school. Or perhaps you're just having problems with your research? 2009 Michigan offense ran the ball 494 times and threw the ball 329 times. That's a 60/40 split.

I worded that wrong, it should have been more like (in the middle part);
why would he look towards an offense that only accumulated 26% of its offensive touches from receiving?
math wasn't wrong just represented it wrong sorry for the confusion.
