The popular wisdom does not give Tim Tebow much of a shot at being there when the Eagles start the regular season, so this will be an interesting camp, to be sure. I guess the question I have is this - what would he do with the Eagles? I have to think that, if anything, it's a more specialized role, not necessarily a starter. Could be wrong.

The reason many folks resent Tebow is because of ESPN ...and the network's astounding OVERCOVERAGE of him both coming out of UF and while in the NFL, albeit briefly.  All the Skip Bayless stuff was contrived for attention..

And I too Met Mr. Tebow while he was here in Denver and he was a very nice and polite (and HUGE) young 20-something who stopped to sign autographs while Xmas shopping on Xmas Eve!  (what a sellout ...what true Christian is shopping on such a hallowed eve?)

Another distasteful aspect of Tebow is his crew of "handlers" and most notably his brother Robbie.  During the time in Denver when Elway wanted to dispose of the distraction that was Timmmmay and gave him his choice of destinations, he very disingenuinely chose the Jets.

.....and chose the Jets exclusively for the market place and ability to "spread his message."

Believe me, I am a preacher's kid and get it about religion.  Most (Peyton Manning even said as much) athletes keep their faith to themselves and/or exhibit it judiciously.  The gratuitous camera shots of Tebow praying on the sidelines all the time, the pre-game prayer, the post-score prayer and all the exaggerated crap off the field very much takes away from the fact that he's a good athlete and a hard worker.

Just not an NFL QB and no better than any other God-fearing (or not) person walking around.

And for the female fanbase, about 80% are fans because they think he's 'hot' ...the other 20% because they're repressed Evangelicals like him.

ESPN grabs anything that they think will get a headline and they ESPN the hell out of it.  It's what they do.

The whole hate for Tebow goes beyond ESPN to me though.  It's all about how much attention he got/gets for doing nearly nothing in the NFL.

I worked at a Christian radio station when he was traded to the Jets and the buzz was that the Broncos traded him BECAUSE he is a Christian, and WHY would they get rid of him?  People who didn't watch football or know a damn thing about it were talking about him like he was the MVP.  Getting rid of him was like turning your back on God.  I tried explaining to them how he is simply NOT an NFL quarterback.  I brought up how when they drafted him I said "The Broncos needed a middle linebacker and they just drafted a guy with the potential to be a great one, but he thinks he's a QB."

Want to see what happens to Tebow if he doesn't have a legion of people rooting for him ONLY due to his faith?  Look at Johnny Football.

The reason the Broncos dealt Tebow is because they knew (and were validated) that Tebow's one year in the limelight was an anomaly and unlikely to be repeated. And don't get me wrong, he was a huge upgrade over Kyle Orton and much, much more entertaining. But he also divided the fanbase between Broncos fans and Tebow fans, some of whom overlapped but the TebowMania contingent was bandwagon and on board for their own reasons. The second and more sincere reason Tebow was dealt was because he and John Elway couldn't be more different. Hardly a saint himself and not shy of the spotlight, the then new Broncos President and face of the franchise didn't want every press conference and every public event dominated by Tebow. Elway's oft quoted line for the weeks he was stalling --- and setting his sights on the new free agent Peyton Manning -- was, "well, if I could pick a guy for my daughter to marry, he'd be the one!" That year was fun and a definite Top Game of all time for me personally was the playoff win over Pittsburgh on the first play of OT, Tebow to Demaryius Thomas on a 2yd screen that DT ran 78yds into the endzone. Actually met DT and had him autograph a pic of that play to frame with the ticket. Tebow who?

Tebow is really just being himself and not exaggerating. I'd rather he be genuine than hide who he is because some people dont want to hear all of his responses seasoned with "God-stuff".

The press (ESPN!) promotes the courage of people in sports like Michael Sam and Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner, and we embrace them. But then when a Christian can't help speaking genuinely and in relation to what gives meaning and purpose to every aspect of their lives, we say that crap needs to stop.

**Not bringing up a debate between these two camps, just noting the hypocracy we (me included) tend to fall into.  If the person is being themselves and responding to media questions with integrity and honesty, then lets accept it regardless of whether we are on board with how the person lives and what he/she believes.

There is a certain kind of person in the world who, when they see another person being praised for being a "good" person, and especially if this praise continues and the person becomes popular, instantly resents that person. We see this all over society. It's as if they feel personally slighted by the attention and compliments the person gets, and they always react by speculating that the person is "fake," and of course they can't possibly be all that. Then they move to "I'm fine with him, I just don't like the over-attention he gets from the media." This comes across as extremely defensive, and I think it is. You know, there are tons of people in the world that are better people than I am, better ethically, morally and in other ways. I admire those people--others resent them, as if the existence of them is somehow a commentary on their lives.

I would have to think if he does make the team he would be there primarily for use in goal line or trick play situations. I do understand all the hate for him on the other hand, I'm not a fan of religious nuts who seem to bring religion into everything and can't seem to talk about anything else.

I never understood the hate for Tebow. Great guy, great leader. overcame tons of odds, and does great charity work. If my sons grew up to be just like him I would consider myself blessed.

No. This world would be a terrible place if your sons grew up to be like Tim Tebow!!! If everybody was like Tim Tebow, we would just have a world full of hard-working people who say nice things about others and take time to be helpful and aren't great NFL quarterbacks!

Personally, I'm sick of this Tim Tebow shit. Give me more Ben Roethlisbergers (allegedly) raping people, because that motherfucker wins Super Bowls. Get Tebow's bitch-ass out of the NFL to make more room for the Vick family.

I agree with Magnus. Never ceases to amaze me that people are so easily offended by such a good natured, talented guy. No..he's not Joe Montana, or John Elway, or Peyton Manning...but the guy is one hell of an athlete that treats people great and gives nothing but 100% every time he's on the field. So let's rip on him because he's squeaky clean and never says a bad thing about anyone.

God is intervening in an American football game is a moron. A lot of the Tebow hate comes from his on the field "praying". Everyone knows God likes baseball.
