Recruit says Malzone top QB currently

Submitted by DrMantisToboggan on

Top 100 Bishop Luers, IN WR Austin Mack (6'2 205lbs) visited this weekend. He had extremely high praise of Harbaugh (as per usual), Fisch, and staff. He is deciding June 7th and his top group is Mich, OSU, MSU, Tenn, Vandy. He said he will visit again before his decision and will bring his parents that time.

What was more interesting about his reaction, however, was him saying that Alex Malzone is the starting quarterback in practice. He was discussing the fact that this staff doesn't care what year you are in, the best player will play. This could be truth, misinterpretation, or recruiting tactics. I found it to be an interesting quote from someone we know for a fact took in all of Saturday's practice.

Couple this with the statement from user HarbaughorBust in the earlier "Speight v. Malzone" thread that Morris is the clear leader right now. The only certainty is uncertainty, at this point. Obviously, we won't know anything concrete until August.

Spring game will tell a lot. I'll wait til I see the spring game before I go nuts about any potential starters. Malzone is solid but I just can't see him winning the job in 5 practices. There is so much time til the first game, let's all relax for a bit.

Of The Wolverine, who opined that Shane Morris was the best of the three over the weekend in controlled scrimmages.

Morris really did a nice job stepping up in the pocket per Balas.

Speight had a very shaky day.

Malzone had two really bad interceptions.

Just sayin'

So much conflicting information. I can't wait until the spring game. Then we will have more information and actually get to see the players in action...and we'll still know nothing.

Still, I will read every one of these threads. I don't have a problem.

I really am pulling for Shane...kid has been through a lot. From Fish's most recent QB report, it seems Shane tries to gas every throw. I remember Dilfer saying the same thing at the Elite 11. Shane wanted everyone to see on every throw that he has a cannon. I for one am rooting Shane can become a passer and not just a thrower. Seems like a real leader on the team and it would be "rainbows and kittens" to see him lead a successful offense.

I really think that there is no leader. Whoever is having the best week of practice is getting the most reps with the 1's. I would be very surprised if we have a clear favorite prior to the week of the first game. This could very well stretch out through the first couple of weeks of the season (hopefully no longer).
