Shafer

Does anyone else think that Shafer's job might be in jeopardy at the end of the season? Michigan fans will feel better if there is some sort of scapegoat, and Bill Martin has put his vote of confidence in RR. So we have our defense which was supposed to be dominant and is now kind of...ok. I might be crazy, but it just seems like an easy way for the AD and/or RR to blame someone for the season and make everyone feel a little better

Uhhh...Shafer was never DC at West Virgina. Or a coach at WVU. Or even set foot there as far as I know.

And WVU was in the national top-10 in defense last year, and two years previous.

So - even when your premise is wrong, your particular is also wrong.

About tackling being on the coaches:

I don't buy it. Is high school two-hand touch? I think these people have been tackling for years.

But then, what is the counterargument?  That Michigan had the incredible bad luck to recruit a defense full of guys who don't know how to tackle while OSU, PSU and even Minnesota somehow managed to find guys who can?  Come on, we've prided ourselves on being a fundamentally-sound football program forever.  The implication there was that the players were being well-schooled in the fundamentals at Michigan.  I don't remember anyone arguing that we had a knack for picking HS players who had already figured it out.

I'm not going to point fingers at anyone in particular (if anything, it's probably on the positional coaches and not Shafer), but our tackling is really poor and just can't remain like this.

is that the position coaches have been showing our guys videos of the Lions tackling their opponents. That's the only way I can explain how our defense is sucking so bad. The Lion's stink is drifting in to Ann Arbor.
