They need to finish in the bottom 8. Period. And I want this to happen. And I have been a Pistons fan since the days of Kevin Porter & Chris Ford.

OK...I don't follow the NBA at all. I was once a Pistons fan years ago, but just don't follow it with any regularity. But I'm confused and need clarity.
I *think* next year's #1 pick is related to the Ben Gordon trade, right? So Joe D. unloaded Ben Gordon and a #1 pick to Charlotte for Corey Maggette and cap space?! And part of that cap space was used to pick up Josh Smith as a free agent?!
Please somebody tell me that what I just outlined is woefully incorrect.

He's got his work cut out for him on this turn-around situation.
The only way I'd feel comfortable with them keeping their pick is if they fire Dumars before the draft. I don't have confidence in Dumars to make the correct pick based on talent/team needs.
