I happened to sit near an OSU fan today while watching the M game

Living in Vegas, I watch most of the M games at the sports bar at the Venetian Hotel. You get to see most of the games that day and hence get all kinds of fans. Today, as I was watching M crush Delaware the table next to me had an OSU fan with his gf (wearing a Florida shirt) . His gf saw me ( I was wearing a M shirt) and said something to her bf . My back was turned to him but I could hear them pretty well despite the noise in the bar. The guy starts talking about how much he hates M and that the only time he would root for M was if they played Afghanistan and Obama was the QB. Just shows how smart OSU fans are... Obama is the US president moron... I'm sure he meant Osama Bin Ladin. I turned and looked at him and was gonna say something but I saw his gf looking at me nodding her head in agreement. I just looked at the scoreboard for the OSU game and clapped

It is difficult for a lot of UM fans to understand just how badly MSU and OSU fans hate all things UM, including us. Most of my Ann Arbor friends and I say we "hate" OSU and MSU, but it's only in a professinal wrestling kind of way; you boo the "heel" and cheer for the "face," and OSU and MSU are the best "heels" in the game for us, with ND coming in a very close third. When an OSU or MSU fan says he "hates UM," though, he really means it. He hates the team, he hates the school, and he hates you if you are a UM fan. And this is bitter, abject hatred: the kind that twists facial muscles into a grotesque, distorted mask. I have never totally understood it, but I don't go out of my way to advertise my UM fandom around OSU people. I just don't like having to go through the bullshit that they invariably try to start. I have found that it is really stupid to waste a lot of energy truly hating anyone, but I guess a lot of people in EL and Columbus don't agree.

You don't understand it? It's pure and simple envy. Some football years are better than others for all teams. But, *every year*, fans of tOSU and MSU know that M is indisputably a vastly superior school, they couldn't get in, and you did. End of discussion.

It is difficult to understand the level of hatred that some (if not most) buckeye fans have for everything Michigan and I experienced it first hand not too long ago. I played in a vendor's golf tournament in Columbus and was nearly in a fist fight over the Michigan towel hanging from my bag. I was sitting in my golf cart with a co-worker waiting to get started and a guy comes up (with a buckstache) and asks me why I have the towel (blue with relatively small "Michigan" on it) on my bag. I told him I was a Michigan grad and my wife had given me the towel as a gift. Thought he would make a joke and move along - instead in says "get out of the cart and take it off!" Mind you this is at a work related event not some random weekend tournament. Long story short someone had to intervene before things really escalated but not before the guy yelled like a mad man and dropped a bunch of F-bombs. The worst part was he had plenty of support from others who said "you really should take it off and hide it". Now I'm not beyond making snarky comments to opposing fans (see recent exchanges with "Irish") but I'd never foam at the mouth over a golf towel even if it were on the UM course. Even the women in Columbus will get in your face. Nuts

You should have went to the bar and ordered a boilermaker for him and his gf and had it sent to their table and as the waitress delivered them just smiled and tipped your hat !

crickets... Watching Colorado / Kansas though... that's surprisingly interesting as is the Missouri / OSU (a more competent one) game. I think most OSU fans had Pryor knowledge that an upset was coming.

they shut up horrendously quick at the new orleans bar i was at and i couldn't figure out why until that beautiful espn/big ten/abc/mars rover scroll showed how bad the game was going. LOVED BTN cutting into the game in time to show pryor choke.

Two years ago I watched the App State debacle at the SD alumni bar. The OSU "alumni" bar just happened next door. During the 3rd Q these dbags started to pour in as the game was close. One guy in an OSU wife beater (no shit) walked around the bar challenging any Michigan fan to fight, I have no idea.......... So our game ended almost 30 mins after their cake walk, not sure why. As we are walking out of the bar mayb 50 OSU fans had formed a human tunnel to laugh, clap, and take pictures of the Michigan fans leaving the bar. 'nuff said.

I was at today's game and the first time it happened I didn't know what all the cheering was about, then I looked at the South scoreboard. Purdue was up 23-10. OSU just got a nice taste of what humility is all about,I think they'll drop 2 more this year and one of them is to us.

While we all jerk ourselves off thinking the world revolves around Michigan, I'd like to add that that hatred has served MSU and OSU well in recent games. UM and UM fans would do well to be able to turn things up a notch or twelve for these rivalry games and treat them both with the respect and emotion they deserve. if you don't recognize your enemy and prepare for them with all you have--they'll git ya. It's been happening too much recently, in case anyone hasn't noticed. I always think it's kind of weird to talk shit when your rivals are handing you your lunch.

I was watching the 2nd half of the MI game this weekend at Applebees in SW MI. A retired couple from Los Angeles of all places - and all decked out in USC garb - came into the bar to watch the USC/ND game at 3:30. They were great folks and we bonded immediately just on our "great dislike" of all things ND - especially Jimmy Clausen, LOL. They attended the USC/OSU game earlier this year and told me, "you guys must have a great rivalry with OSU, because all the OSU fans did before, during and after that game was talk @#$%^& about Michigan." Believable and unbelievable at the same time.
