Let the past die. Schemy is a god-awful hire - who wouldnt even be considered had his highly-questionable father not been associated with the school, and his social media account alone should get him removed ASAP.

I got a look at some of those "likes" before they were scrubbed, and yikes man, there was some pretty awful shit on there.

Yes, a lot of them could be classified as "political", but there were also a bunch of them that were straight-up racist tropes.

I'm not sure how what kind of mental gymnastics one has to do, to work in a field with and around so many black folks and then get on your phone and go around "liking" racist tweets and memes.  I guess he thought since he wasn't the one posting them, he could do it on the down-low.

They need to rectify this situation immediately.

Two weeks ago UM football was proudly tweeting their trip to the African American History Museum and then they follow that up by hiring this guy. Absolutely ridiculous.

What’s on deck for next year? Visiting Auschwitz followed by hiring a Nazi sympathizer?

Hiring a Schembechler was bad enough. But this clearly goes so far beyond that.

The sad part is that there is no expectation that this will be addressed. I will be pleasantly surprised if it is. But until then this has got to be the worst decision Jim has made here. So disappointing and made worse by the fact that everything else has been going so great lately. Why, just why would you shoot yourself in the foot right now?

Colin Kaepernick, who is an unserious buffoon, was the honorary captain of the spring game last year.

Kaepernick  wore a Fidel Castro shirt and then subsequently lauded Castro did as the dictator of Cuba. He had an unhinged Netflix documentary which among other things compared the NFL combine to a slave auction. He apologized to brown people for the US killing Iran's terrorist general. On the 4th of July, he said he was going home to Ghana, which is a significantly less free country than the United States.

I don't love that Harbaugh had a person like Kaepernick associated with the university. But I understand that Kaepernick was Harbaugh's draft pick and QB who took his team to the Super Bowl. And I have no trouble dealing with it because I am an adult.

Shemy is a guy Harbaugh had known since elementary school. Shemy's views might be braindead but they are no more ridiculous than Kaepernick's views. For some reason I strongly suspect the people most upset about Shemy are perfectly okay with a Castro sympathizer.

Here is the definition of false equivalence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_equivalence

Kaepernick and Shemy are more like  one for one comparisons. Two people with offensive and unthoughtful views brought into the program by Harbaugh.

The post I responded to had an actual example of false equivalence. I wonder why you thought this bonkers comparison was not worth saying something about. Real puzzler.

I give Harbaugh the benefit of the doubt. What we are talking about are Twitter “likes.” He says any of that shit IRL we are having a different conversation.

Effective this afternoon, Shemy Schembechler has resigned his position with Michigan Football. We are aware of some comments and likes on social media that have caused concern and pain for individuals in our community. Michigan Athletics is fully committed to a place where our coaches, staff and student-athletes feel welcome and where we fully support the University’s and Athletic Department’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
