Who is doing that well?

Name one program that is getting lottery players to come back.

Hell, who is getting projected first rounders back?

As for Dickinson, that's not retention, because I'm sure you're not going to give Juwan credit for Dickinson coming back the last two years (nor should you).

People keep bitching about losing players, but who is keeping these guys? You might get some possible second rounders like the kid at UCLA or Timme from Gonzaga who come back. A Baycot at UNC.

But Houston, Diabate, Howard and Bufkin aren't those guys.

If you want retention, recruit a bunch of Terrance Williams, Dug McDaniel, etc. - type guys who don't have an obvious NBA future.

Until the NBA Draft model changes, you're not keeping guys until they are "NBA Ready" - that's not a thing anymore. You get them until they have NBA potential and they are draft eligible. It has nothing to do with Juwan and anyone blaming him is lazy.

Beilein wouldn't have kept Hardaway Jr. for a third year in this era. Beilein couldn't keep Jordan Poole, Iggy Brazdekis (who wasn't even a 1st rounder) or Charles Matthews. Poole and Brazdekis definitely should have come back from a development perspectice. But everyone piles on Juwan.

DJ Wilson also left before he was ready.

I mean UNC convinced their whole team to return. Jalen Wilson could’ve left after last season he stayed. Tre Smith was going to be a first round pick, he came back to NC State. Duke has 4 freshmen that could get drafted, I don’t think all of them will declare. Yes does it suck losing players…yes but it is the coaches job to try and convince players to stick around. Problem here is it seems players are looking for the first opportunity to bolt.

Hunter understands his options are limited going pro.  He is looking for an NIL payday that Michigan probably cannot give him.  He is trying to get paid when he can.  Has nothing to do with winning at this point.  He has had 2 fairly deep runs in the NCAA tournament and won a BIG championship.  He has won here.  He will go to the highest bidder.  If Michigan does come up with the money, I promise he would come back.

How insulting to the big 10!!! The Detroit lions wouldn’t ever be a member of the conference (although the lions would likely be ‘next years favorite’ in the big 10 too)!

Hutch plays a different sport, professionally, so I think he’s ineligible to return to college program.

I won't miss his stupid 3 pt "celebration" after every make. Or him staring at his right hand when he makes 1 out of 10 with it. Or showing up in a ski mask to score 12 points in a loss.

He was a good player here and I cheered for him. And now he's not and I really don't care. Like a lot of the team, he seemed to lose interest this year and took a step in the wrong direction.  I don't know what the answer is, but a complete rebuild wouldn't be the worst option. Another lackluster  bubble team that falls short on potential and effort and watching them blow game after game sounds like a worse option and probably what we are with the current roster + Hunter.  Goodluck, sir.

It is a bummer to see Hunter go but it could be addition by subtraction considering his defense and, sometimes, lack of effort.

As for Howard, I repeat that the people wanting him fired are likely the same who wanted Harbaugh fired. I am not nearly the hoops expert as many here claim to be but most of the writeups seem to suggest Howard does have a very good grasp of how to coach but has had a few goofs. Overall, he has had ONE bad season and there was an incredible amount of bad luck.

2019-20: Inherited a team that lost top 3 lead scorers to the NBA Draft, won the battle for Atlantis, jumped from unranked to #4 in the AP Top (only 2nd time it has happened in poll history), Covid ended the season.

2020-21: Lost Xavier Simpson and Jon Teske and both their backups but replaced them with Mike Smith, Chaundee Brown, and Hunter. Won the regular-season Big Ten Championship (first since 2014), received the No. 1 seed, and advanced to the Elite Eight.

2021-22: Lost Mike Smith, Chaundee Brown, Isaiah Livers, Franz Wagner. He added DeVante' Jones and one of the highest ranked recruiting classes in history. The team struggled with all the new parts but advanced to the Sweet 16.

2022-23: Lost De’vante Jones, Eli Brooks, Frankie Collins (weird transfer), Caleb Houston, and Mousa Diabate. Llewellyn transfers in and immediately gets hurt and Terrance Shannon is messed up by admissions.. Howard brings in a top 10 recruiting class and we see promise from Dug, Reed, and Jett (goodbye). The team improves down the stretch but falls short of the tourney thanks to a bunch of close losses and one to CMU (barf). Blew a chance at NIT “redemption”.

Just imagine for a moment, if Llewellyn does not get hurt and Collins does not ditch the team we would have had a 4 guard rotation of Llewellyn, Collins, Dug, and Bufkin. Throw in a Terrance Shannon transfer and this team is dancing. However, Michigan fans are not happy unless they are miserable

The key to predicting Hunter’s next team is to identify all the colleges that have a Rick’s on or near campus

Im fine with Hunter leaving, not mad or happy about it, right in the middle.

Some great times, some bad times, but he seemed to have given it his all most days.

It is time for a change in scheme for Juwan, and of course this helped force it, but the clunky offensive shit over last couple years was so unfun to watch.

Dug and Reed are solid building blocks, go surround them with ball handlers and get this team a lot quicker on the court.
