I’ve just read he was pulled off the recruiting trail for a reason and was most likely not going to be back either way after the season ended. I never really thought it was true.

It clearly wasn’t a money thing that made him leave to Miami. Michigan probably would match any offer if they really wanted him.

Lateral move to a worse team. I guess lack of taxes and maybe wanting to live in Florida (these guys have families, after all) could be draws, but Michigan's offense will most likely be WAY better than Miami's next year

There were a few people who insisted that Harbaughs month long NFL flirtation hurt the program and hurt trust in the program, including me. We were berated and told that we were fans who were “never happy.” I am sure those same people will now present this as a Josh Gattis being the problem issue, rather than admit that Jim did anything wrong.

I think all those takes are BS. The truth is we do not know why Gattis is leaving. It could be Harbaugh's NFL flirtation upset him. It could be that Miami gave him an offer he couldn't refuse. It could be he wanted to get out from Harbaugh's shadow. It could be any number of the less responsible theories be thrown about. We do not know.

You’re making ‘I told you so’ statements based on nothing more than assumptions and guesses. You probably got negged then because you were spouting off on things that YOU HAD ABSOLUTELY NO KNOWLEDGE OF, but, despite not knowing jack shit about what was happening then, or why Gattis is leaving now, you’re somehow taking a victory lap. Just, wow.

You *could* be right that he’s leaving because he thinks Harbaugh will go to the nfl at his first opportunity, maybe he’s mad he wasn’t the choice to be head coach if Harbaugh took the Vikings job, or maybe it’s one of a hundred other things. Point is - you don’t actually know anything, just like the rest of us - but sure, give yourself a big pat on the back

Agreed. I'm thinking if I just won the top award for an assistant and had the first Big Ten championship for the school I am at in almost two decades, my stock is as high as it is going to get. No sense in risking going backwards next year with no chance of becoming the HC. Now he can move to Miami with improvement being likely, market himself as someone who goes in and turns things around with offenses, and get a big-time HC position from the bounce when one opens up. Harbaugh saying he would stay forever basically take Michigan out of that mix and a job that is better may open up within the next few years.

Now we get to watch all of the “promote Gattis to head coach” guys spin this move as what is best for Michigan because Gattis isn’t the greatest or wasn’t the architect, anyway.

By the way, Sam says that this is just ONE of the potential internal moves due to Harbaugh’s actions. So, all the people who try ink this is Josh Gattis getting paid, it seems Sam knew about this ahead of time, so it’s not money.

I don't know about the rumors but it is always interesting that they only come out after the fact. Why was none of this reported by those in the know when he was being talked about for HC if Jim left? This just looks like a way to sully someone on the way out because they decided to leave.
