Sunday morning roundup: Cristobal targeting Gattis for Miami (YTM) OC

He stopped recruiting. And maybe the Vikings thing bothered him more than he initially let on.

Was there anyone on this site talking about those whispers earlier in the week when they thought he would be in the mix for the HC position? If so, I didn't see it.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:25 AM ^
No it was not talked about here. I just wanted to put that out there before we started a new rumor in this thread.

Anyone see or hear about him on visits in January to high schools?
February 6th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
I’ve just read he was pulled off the recruiting trail for a reason and was most likely not going to be back either way after the season ended. I never really thought it was true.
It clearly wasn’t a money thing that made him leave to Miami. Michigan probably would match any offer if they really wanted him.

This post seems irresponsible at best.

Yeah, what whispers?
And are those "whispers" the reason he was "allegedly" not being considered as the #1 choice to replace Jim should get have left?
February 6th, 2022 at 11:00 AM ^
Only whispers I hear is the stability of Jim, does he really want to be here? And don’t believe this won’t be a reoccurring thing next year an NFL teams actually makes an offer he gone!
February 6th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
The rumors are Gattis was no longer recruiting because of something that happened with a recruits mother.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:33 PM ^
Say whaaaa...?
Now that's one hell of a rumour...hope its just that, a rumour.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:51 AM ^
Lateral move to a worse team. I guess lack of taxes and maybe wanting to live in Florida (these guys have families, after all) could be draws, but Michigan's offense will most likely be WAY better than Miami's next year
February 6th, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
You really think this is about a few dollars and taxes? Really? Gattis already made one million, and it is not like Michigan can’t pay to keep him.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:51 AM ^
There were a few people who insisted that Harbaughs month long NFL flirtation hurt the program and hurt trust in the program, including me. We were berated and told that we were fans who were “never happy.” I am sure those same people will now present this as a Josh Gattis being the problem issue, rather than admit that Jim did anything wrong.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
Correct. They always do. See "whispers" post above.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:32 PM ^
I think all those takes are BS. The truth is we do not know why Gattis is leaving. It could be Harbaugh's NFL flirtation upset him. It could be that Miami gave him an offer he couldn't refuse. It could be he wanted to get out from Harbaugh's shadow. It could be any number of the less responsible theories be thrown about. We do not know.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:15 PM ^
You’re making ‘I told you so’ statements based on nothing more than assumptions and guesses. You probably got negged then because you were spouting off on things that YOU HAD ABSOLUTELY NO KNOWLEDGE OF, but, despite not knowing jack shit about what was happening then, or why Gattis is leaving now, you’re somehow taking a victory lap. Just, wow.
You *could* be right that he’s leaving because he thinks Harbaugh will go to the nfl at his first opportunity, maybe he’s mad he wasn’t the choice to be head coach if Harbaugh took the Vikings job, or maybe it’s one of a hundred other things. Point is - you don’t actually know anything, just like the rest of us - but sure, give yourself a big pat on the back
February 6th, 2022 at 10:54 AM ^
He’s leaving because he wanted JJ to start and Harbaugh won’t let him bench Cade!! Rumors and conspiracies!!!
February 6th, 2022 at 11:30 AM ^
Yeah I know this is satire essentially but just to clarify this isn’t true. What is true is that Harbaugh and Gattis both agreed JJ needed time to work into the offense. They handled the JJ and Cade situations really well.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:48 AM ^
Wasn't it Gattis that said Cade's gonna play in the NFL for a long time last spring?
February 6th, 2022 at 11:02 AM ^
He'd stay if there were a chance to be Head Coach here but my $ is on Harbaugh saying he's staying forever being the motivation behind this.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:10 AM ^
Agreed. I'm thinking if I just won the top award for an assistant and had the first Big Ten championship for the school I am at in almost two decades, my stock is as high as it is going to get. No sense in risking going backwards next year with no chance of becoming the HC. Now he can move to Miami with improvement being likely, market himself as someone who goes in and turns things around with offenses, and get a big-time HC position from the bounce when one opens up. Harbaugh saying he would stay forever basically take Michigan out of that mix and a job that is better may open up within the next few years.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:22 AM ^
Now we get to watch all of the “promote Gattis to head coach” guys spin this move as what is best for Michigan because Gattis isn’t the greatest or wasn’t the architect, anyway.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:28 AM ^
By the way, Sam says that this is just ONE of the potential internal moves due to Harbaugh’s actions. So, all the people who try ink this is Josh Gattis getting paid, it seems Sam knew about this ahead of time, so it’s not money.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
I don't know about the rumors but it is always interesting that they only come out after the fact. Why was none of this reported by those in the know when he was being talked about for HC if Jim left? This just looks like a way to sully someone on the way out because they decided to leave.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:15 PM ^
I refuse to become attached to coaches any longer. We will be fine. I wish Gattis "Speed in Space".
