The ONLY thing about Saturday's pre-game incident I wish hadnt happened was Bush marking up their logo after the altercation.  Not because I give two shits about their stupid logo (I dont) but because the lazy media has used that as their central "talking point" in framing what happened.

MSU: they walked down the middle of the field and some dust-up occurred

Mich: they defaced the Spartan logo

Without context it appears as a "he said/she said" type event and that's how 99% of the people without the knowledge we have are reading it.  I've had at least five conversations today with OSU people who wanted to know if our guy was facing any punishment for what he did OR "can you blame MSU for acting the way you guys did pre-game?  We would do the same if somebody from another team tried to deface the O in our stadium".  They dont know the sequence of events and the media sure as hell isnt helping to inform them.

Hell the BTN network this morning presented it as if both events happened more or less at the same time and have now completely backed away from showing their footage of MarkyMark walking behind the team grinning.

On the other hand, this has good publicity for our program.  Your average viewer sees and knows Michigan backed it up.  How many football fans are fastidious about this sort of thing?  It's a spectacle, and the media loves it.  Try to be above it all like Hoke and there is no reward.

That was fantastic.  Coach Harbaugh broke it down step-by-step, so that nobody could misunderstand what happened and why it was wrong.  And correctly identified Bush's logo scrape as a very even-tempered reaction to what could fairly be described as coordinated assault of our players.  (I don't think it was a good look by Bush to scrape the logo, but much more importantly (A) Harbaugh has his back and (B) Harbaugh underscored the proportionality of MSU's coordinated walkover vs. Bush's heel scrapes.)  And pointed out that it is a program-wide problem at MSU.

Also, coming out and calling Coach Dantonio a liar is something we don't see enough of these days.  FWIW, the rumor in the stadium, at least among the Spartan faithful who surrounded me, was that Bush had been suspended for the game due to "unsportsmanlike conduct" for defacing their logo.  I did not know any details until after the game, but each time I said it was weird that you'd get an unsportsmanlike conduct call when there's not a game going on, I was assured Bush was thrown out.

Did I point out when the defense took the field that Bush was in fact playing?  I did.

Surprisingly, I'm with Mike Valenti on this one. Harbaugh wanted his players on the field to disrupt the walk (why else are their only like 4 guys on the field?). Dantonio wanted Michigan players on the field to intimidate. Harbaugh gets to beef with MSU since "they started it". Dantonio gets to be mad about things. No one was hurt. Everyone wins!

What do you expect from as coach who protects criminals and sexual predators on his team then LIES about it and a culture at MSU that bent over backwads to protect bad athletes

Section 1.8

October 22nd, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^

So does Dantonio have a Monday press conference?

Whatever anybody says about how it got started, timing, the routine of MSU wearing helmets, etc.;  Dantonio really was right there.  He was, as Harbaugh asserted, following five yards behind his guys and absolutely aware of what was going to happen before it happened.  That is a fact.

Dantonio's Saturday comment was that the question put to him (including the observation that Dantonio was five yards behind his guys, doing nothing as the whole thing unfolded), was "b.s."  He really should be asked more specifically about that.

I've seen Big Ten football coaches go crazy at times.  I saw Bo Schembechler throw his headset.  I was there, on the East side of the Stadium, when Woody tore up the down marker.  I've seen Lee Corso, Pat Fitzgerald, Kevin Wilson, Haden Fry, Glenn Mason all get pretty riled up on calls they disputed.

But each and every one of those coaches would have hauled off the field any player who threatened to get into a fight with an opposing player.  I have never, ever, ever, seen a football coach who basically encouraged a fight between his players and opponents.

I know this falls under the "Who gives a shit?" category and you might be asking yourself, "Who?" but Scott "The Gator" Anderson said today on 97.1 that he didn't think the video showed evidence of Dantonio smiling or smirking. He actually tried to use the "Mark doesn't smile much anyway." Oh fuck the fuck off Spartans. You got fucking owned and you get to deal with it until next November.

But it’s like section 1.8 said, who cares what his facial expression was. The biggest and only point is, he was there. He didn’t stop it. Which meant he wanted it to happen.

He wasn’t instructing his players to go around anybody, he didn’t try to stop any confrontation. He wanted something to happen. That’s crazy! How is that not the narrative. Somebody has to ask him what he was doing there at that moment to ease the tensions. Get his “bs” on record.

It's a moot point anyway. HE WAS THERE. You're the goddamned coach...if you see your players getting into it YOU STOP THAT NOISE IMMEDIATELY.

Like Harbuagh when he said "Play smart", and that was after all Onwenu did was stand up for his teammate who was dangerously close to being injured by a Spartan playing dirty.

And anyway there's video fucking evidence of smiling.

Dantini really exposed himself.. . .. and to think I thought he was a good coach... hes not..hes a punk ass... now he gets no benefit of the doubt.... what a jackass, truly....  shame on me for thinking he was a decent coach. There is no place in college football for those dirty antics.

Welcome to the next decade of Michigan football.....  we are gonna RAILROAD them until he leaves, and then based on their next coach, it'll likely continue.

And kiss OSU goodbye too.

You poke the bear, the bear will respond.

I loved Devin tearing up their field. He didn't do it like Baker Mayfield did it at OSU (to celebrate a win). He did it because he was provoked. He did it to tell them we weren't going to be their bitches any more. I'm guessing his coaches loved it and I KNOW his teammates loved it.

That was Charles Matthews smiling in Nick Ward's face, times a hundred. As far as I'm concerned, Devin Bush will always be a hero on our campus.

Why does it feel that Matthews actions were the first time in a decade we gave it back to them?  Matthews' response was very much needed, and things ironically have seemed to change since then.

"It'll never be over"...   yes, it is, mark... on your end, at least.  get ready to be RAILROADED the rest of your career...

Dantonio poked at the bear for the last time.  Harbaugh is now Dialed In on MSU and he will end their run, like he did to Pete Carroll at USC.

Dicktonio will be out of coaching within 5 years.  Mark it down.  Harbaugh wins the next 5.

you know i think that this is accurate.  we aren't ever going to be out-coached, and with the talent we have coming in and its exceptional development, for the foreseeable future little bro is just that, little bro.

My only concern at this point in regard to MSU, is that after we beat their ass again next year Dantonio retires before his "narrative" against Michigan changes.  He won't let that record get diminished too much.

Well played coach!

If you have something important to say .....choose your words carefully.

Especially because in the long narrow corridor between these two fan bases words echo for a looooooooooooooong time.

And Dantonio hiding  5 yards behind the line like the enormous pussy he is.  If Harbaugh had pulled this stuff, which he never would’ve, he would have been front and center...the tip of the spear.

So awesome. Only college has a coach addressing the media 2 days after the game calling the other team "stormtroopers" over an almost completely inconsequential pre game spat. If you can't sink your teeth into this then you aren't a college fan.

If the last 10 years hadn't happened I'd feel bad for whats about to happen to Sparty. But they did, and what Harbaugh is about to do to their program is going to make Saturday feel like Nirvana, and I'm good with that. Harbaugh holds a grudge with the absolute best of them. He's held back for the first few years, so we know he's more bite than bark. Its a little early, but my advice right now is to give the points next year.
