I would say Stoops's 4 BCS National Championship appearances trumps anything Tressel has done. The others I listed are a bit lower, but they still have the advantage of recruiting Texas or the general vicinity on a regular basis.  Tressel would be completely out of his element in Texas.

rumors seem to be Texas wants either a Super Bowl winner or National Championship coach. What about Urban? He just got knocked out of the title picture by MSU, Miller will be gone after next year. Texas fits the size of his ego too. Then Narduzzi gets the OSU job. That last one would suck, but it would be a possibility.

Texas is probably a slightly better job than OSU, but not by much.  I only say that due to the financial ability that the Longhorn Network gives them and the talent in the state.  But, there is a lot of talent in Ohio, the BTN is strong, and OSU probably has had more success in the last 25 years than UT has.  Urban is from Ohio and has roots at OSU.  He has no claim to UT or the state of Texas.  I can't see him leaving his home state and former school just for an ever-so-slight move up in programs...especially after only losing one game in 2 seasons at OSU.  I'd bet Urban is quite confident he can win a NC at OSU in the next few years and probably expects to be able to be in the NC picture every year.  And, with where they currently are, the weakness of the B1G, and how he's recruiting I would find it hard to argue he wouldn't.

Then again, it has to gnaw at Urban that many people were not certain that an undefeated OSU should have a shot at the NC game over a one-loss SEC team. The weakness of the B1G also hurts him at OSU.

I always felt bad for Texas when Colt McCoy got injured in the NCG in 2010.  I really thought Texas was the better team with McCoy and that really set them up for some struggles after that.  They had some really tough luck and didn't seem to be able to develop a QB.  Gilbert, Ash, and Brewer never producing/developing really hurt them.  I heard someone on ESPN saying some nonesense that Texas was down because they couldn't land RG3 or Manziel, not even realizing that Ash & Gilbert were both higher ranked recruits than RG3 or Manziel were.  I have wondered why Texas still couldn't win with all that other talent around the QB and all those great recruiting classes.

With the amount of recruiting nowadays it's seems like a NCAA coach is a 365 24/7 job. Would a Super Bowl winning NFL coach really leave that to go coach Texas?

NFL is more demanding based on roster restrictions/personnel and you can see how Saban worked this to his advantage at Alabama vs. his time in Miami. Personnel plays a much bigger role in the NFL in determining if you have success or not. Also, scheme is key in the NFL in that talent disparity (unless you're a Browns fan like me) is less in terms of team to team variance vs. college.

I think it would be pretty sweet if Texas stayed in this current slump for a while.  Before Mack Brown got there, the Horns were a mediocre program for about 25 years, where 8-4 was considered a great season.  While Michigan fans were complaining that Lloyd Carr was consistently getting 9-3 seasons out of 11-1 talent, a usual comment on MLive was that, hey, at least we're not Texas.

Once Mack got there, Texas looked alot like Notre Dame did when they were coached by Lou Holtz, winning 11 games every year, half of their wins always by the skin of the their teeth where every critical bounce and flukey play went their way...game after game, season after season.

Just look at these bowl results that took place over a 5 year period:

2005 Rose Bowl: Kicked a field goal with 6 seconds left to beat Michigan 38-37.

2006 Rose Bowl: Scored a TD with 19 seconds left to beat USC 41-38.

2007 Alamo Bowl: Scored a TD with 1 minute left to beat Iowa 26-24.

2009 Fiesta Bowl: Scored a TD with 16 seconds left to beat Ohio State 24-21.

I really grew to dislike these guys.  I've never seen a program win so many close games over such a long period of time.  And given how Michigan sucks at close games, I resent them more.

The 2005 Rose Bowl was indeed flukey; someone (maybe Crable, but I can't remember for sure) actually got a piece of the game winning field goal but it inexplicably still went through the uprights.

Texas was also outplayed by USC for the national championship but Vince Young absolutely went off that game and basically single-handedly won that game, including a late game come from behind drive to win the game

Also the disrespect for Tressel's career is a bit surprising to me. I truly believe he's dirty, but the guy won 81% of the games he coached at OSU, won a national title, made two more appearances, won six Big Ten championships in ten years, making eight BCS bowls in total, winning four.

If Brady Hoke comes close to matching that over the next decade, the board would (rightfully) be asserting that he's one of the best coaches in the country.

From 2000-2009 Texas was 110-19 and 7-3 in bowl games with 1 MNC. Close games or not, that is a good record that I think a lot of Michigan fans would sign up for right now.

It's funny because when those same last second plays happen for UM, it is a great comeback but if it happens for them then it is a fluke.

Auburn fans will be freaking out right now.  Malzahn said Texas is his dream job and he has never been shy about job hoping.  Plus everyone knows how crazy the Auburn fan base is.  Job security and Auburn don't belong in the same sentence.
