Great, Nagelvoort hurt because these terrible refs won't blow the fucking whistle. Then of course they penalize Michigan. Tell me this crew isn't coming back tomorrow.

Nagelvoort covers the puck and the refs don't blow the whistle. The UNH players slap at Zach and  scrum ensues. That's how players get hurt. Terrible.

Some of my thoughts

  • Nagelvoort ruled. I was afraid to say it in game but he was rock solid. If Racine struggles, Nagelvoort is going to be right behind him
  • We look young and talented. Capable of great plays but tons of penalties and defensive breakdowns
  • Refs were pretty awful

The combination of terrible officiating and Nagelvoort going in for Racine made this tie feel like a win.

Nagelvoort looked really good in limited action.  Great save on the penalty shot.

Honestly, we were very fortunate to come away with a tie, with a ton of credit going to Racine and Nagelvoort. The refs were a shitshow, but Michigan also put themselves to take some of those penalties; as noted, UNH had way too many breakaways and odd man rushes.
I know it's early in the year, but the passes need to be crisper, and the puck movement will hopefully smooth out, too. Too many shots not on goal was another issue. All that said, Michigan controlled the first part of the first period, and looked great, but after the UNH major, constantly being on the penalty kill took its toll. There were flashes, but no real sustained pressure or momentum after that.
