Report: 'Multiple teams' called Patriots about Ryan Mallett trade
According to Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe, "multiple teams" have dialed up the Patriots and inquired about acquiring Mallett, who was a third-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Bedard's sources tell him that "the odds are slightly stronger that Mallett is dealt than kept" by the Patriots once all is said and done.
However, compensation, as usual, is the issue. The Pats invested a third-round pick in Mallett in 2011, at a time when they clearly didn't need a quarterback. They've spent the past two years teaching him the ins and outs of becoming the next Tom Brady (and not the next Matt Cassel to anyone who's interested in trading, thank you very much) and want to be justly compensated. Who can blame them?
Bedard believes that a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft or a 2014 first-round pick would probably get the job done. That brings into question whether or not the Browns, run by unabashed Mallett fan and Belichick buddy Mike Lombardi, are in play then, because they have no second-round pick this year.
I don't remember if the new indoor practice facility was finished or not, but the old one (Oosterbaan Fieldhouse) wasn't horrible. The main problem was that the roof was too low, so you couldn't punt in it.
The weight room wasn't bad under Carr. I had the chance to see it. Some people had questions about the basic S&C philosophy we had, but the facility/equipment themselves weren't subpar. Barwis had some of it replaced, because he needed some new equipment for his different philosophy - not because it was falling apart or anything.
This was nowhere near the issue we had with basketball, where there was literally no dedicated practice space for the team if Crisler was in use, so the team sometimes had to use the IM Building or Coliseum, and where the arena itself was old, dim and dingy.
The new practice facility was still under construction in '08.
This I know because I was at a alumni homecomming lunch at Oosterbaan, and I snuck out of one of the side doors to see the outdoor practice field. But then the door locked behind me and I was stuck out there. Nobody could hear me knocking to get back in. So I had to work my way out to the street through the new practice facility construction site and climb up and over the ten foot security fencing to get out.
I can vouch that it's a large building.
