OT: Wrestlemania 29
I know everyone is understandably geeked about the basketball team, but as a fan of both collegiate athletics and fake fighting between part-time movie stars and guys who dress like dinosaurs, I figured a thread should be set up for the biggest night in sports entertaintment, Wrestlemania 29. At least when the refs screw up here, we expect it!
The card:
The Rock vs. John Cena
Undertaker vs. CM Punk
Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H
Alberto Del Rio vs. Jack Swagger
Team Hell No vs. Dolph Ziggler & Big E. Langston
The Shield vs. Big Show & Randy Orton & Sheamus
Ryback vs. Mark Henry
Chris Jericho vs. Fandango
Tons of Funk & Funkadactyls vs. Rhodes Scholars & Bella Twins
Wade Barrett vs. The Miz
I expect Cena to win the title from the Rock, for Punk to go down to the Undertaker after a good match, Swagger to win the world title, team Ziggles winning the tag title, and Henry and Ryback to HOSS FIGHT through a pretty boring match with (I assume) a Shellshock finish. Jericho will put over Fandango, the Shield will win with a swerve, Tons of Funk will squash Rhodes Scholars, and the Miz will win whatever secondary title Wade Barrett currently holds (IC title?). The only result I can't put my finger on is Brock vs. Triple H, though I'm leaning toward Lesnar pulling it out.
Feel free to post your thoughts.
For those who don't feel like paying $60, here's a better option-
Does Mark Heny still go by the unforgettable moniker, "Sexual Chocolate"?!
Haven't watched since Owen Hart died. I was 13 years old, and he was my favorite wrestler and it broke my heart.
but I think Punk will end Undertaker's streak. Taker's getting old and this would be the perfect way to put Punk over as one of the biggest, if not the biggest, heel ever.
Reaaallllllyyyyyy now?
The money and buyrate was so nice, they'll do it twice.
Thank you for the insightful comment. I clearly had no idea.
the Wade Barrett match got bumped to the pre show
It's still real to me, dammit!!!!1!!!1!
It's the 27th anniversary of Wrestlemania 2. The British Bulldogs beat the Hart foundation to become tag team world Champions! That's when wrestling mattered. . .
Brock Lesner
Undertaker wins (streak to 21-0)
Del Rio Wins (Ziggler tries to cash in Money in the bank)
Ryback wins
Shield beats Big Show/Shamus/ Orton
Ziggler and Big E win tag championship (Team Hell No splits up)
Is the Undertaker the same guy who was the undertaker many years ago or do they replace 'the undertaker' with new people, like James Bond?
Yep. On the ultra-nice schedule of a match a year, but still an institution.
I like the set. A little schmaltzy, but cool skyline.
The smarky fans are everywhere at this event. My wife and I were at the NY Auto Show this Friday and saw a bunch of people entering Hammerstein's ballroom for the ROH event. It honestly took over a part of NYC.
Lazy booking there. It's a secondary story, but the Giant "turning" on guys is pretty cliche.
HOSS FIGHT! How I imagine Taylor Lewan and Mike Martin hitting each other in practice.
I have been wrong about every match so far. Good to see that fake fighting can still trick me.
I have been wrong about every Mission Impossible so far. Good to see that fake spying and shooting people up can still trick me.
He barely. He's wrestled something like 4 times since 2010.
Swagger just got the jobber entrance at mania.
Awesome intros for Punk and Undertaker.
I was really looking forward to the possibility of a couple of "heel turns" last night, and it didn't happen. Cena would have been perfect, but he means too much to their "child friendly" direction and Make a Wish, so they didn't turn him, even though he had teased it this week.
It would have been a perfect time to turn HBK heel and have him cost HHH the match, leading to them wrestling next year at WM. This would have been possible because "retirement matches" only result in someone staying "retired" about 20% of the time.
Instead, they jobbed Lesnar out, making Lesnar the highest-paid JTTS in the history of professional wrestling.
