Stevie Brown talks at the Big Ten days

Here's some interesting stuff from behind the paywall at Scout: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=162&f=1088&t=4545388 A few tidbits: - Brown said that Coach Robinson is incredibly meticulous in explaining how he wants things done (BTW, Coach Rod also said that Coach Robinson spends most of his time on tackling with the team - thank GOD). Brown said if you don't know what to do after listening to Robinson, "you're stupid." - He brought up leadership, about how Woodley would walk up to Brown in 2006 and ask, "what are you doing?" Brown would respond that he's watching TV. Woodley would say, "guess you don't want to win," and would just walk away. Brown said it's similar this year. - He said he's really impressed with both JT Turner and Witty - both high-energy guys. Maybe the depth will be acceptable at CB with the five players we've got? - He said that communication on D is way better, and mentioned Warren, Obi, and mentioned how the team meets to clear up communication and lining up issues. There is a support system now. - Odoms runs really crisp routes (THAT'S RIGHT). - Tate is very accurate. - Roundtree is a deep threat.

Those Witty remarks from Stevie Brown excite me for sure. I really hope Witty turns out to a be good corner. Especially since we all think we just offered him to lure Shoelace (which is probably true), but if he were to turn out good it would be excellent.

In another interview, S. Brown said he was impressed with Stokes and Cam Gordon. Nice to heard a good report on Cam since many of us weren't expecting him to have much of an impact this year at WR. Brown also said Denard was picking up the offense and showing some flashes. Regarding Witty, Coach Gibson has been saying "don't forget about Witty" for some time.

I love how this sounds, but I'm going to be skeptical until I see how the defense performs. Every team in the Big 10 right has great exciting news right now about how their young players are coming along. You almost never hear a coach or a player say "Things aren't going too well. Our young guys don't appear to have much talent and they don't get along with the coaches". Even Danny Hope (Purdue coach) during his press conference made it sound like the Boilermakers are going to contend for a Big 10 title when in reality, they will probably suck. Time will prove some of the sunshine to be BS, while some of it is genuine. The defense was pretty bad in the spring game and there hasn't been any serious action since then. I do like what I'm hearing about Greg Robinson though. He sounds like a good no nonsense, hands on teacher type. We really need a guy who can coach fundamentals and not necessarily a guy who is a sexy pick that the media loves (like Will Muschamp).
