Music City Bowl Open Thread
The Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl is going to start soon. Hopefully we can get through it and not have evil January flashbacks of Mississippi State, or the idea that Wake Forest's coach was a candidate for the Michigan job. Double brrrrrrrrrr!
I'm sure LSAClassof2000 will have your full write up shortly. 2 down, 2 to go.

Thanks, M-Wolverine!
*shuffles notes*
Right, so once again, we have a showcase of so-so teams and also-rans, but this time it is a matter of degrees given it is an ACC-SEC matchup. We've got Mississippi State (6-6) and Wake Forest (6-6). Oddly enough, WF has a WINNING record in the ACC at 5-3, whereas Miss St. went 2-6 in the SEC. In any event, it should be an intriguing game - I went Wake Forest in this game because I felt bad not picking ANYONE in the ACC to win a bowl.
Have fun with it, folks. I am here all evening.

This is probably my last hurrah. Headed to New Orleans early tomorrow, so not sure I'm even making it through the whole next game (so I'm not posting it when I won't even be around for all of it).

So I pass the baton, because the games I will be around for I probably won't be on my computer. And posting from the App doesn't put it on the Board, just the front page. So I won't do that. Good luck with the January 2nd madness, and I'll race you to the Compass Bowl (if Zone Left doesn't get there first).
December 30th, 2011 at 6:41 PM ^
My recent promotion ensures that I need to hang around sadly, so I will be rooting for my alma mater from afar this time. I will be here to do the remote and studio coverage though. LOL
December 30th, 2011 at 6:47 PM ^
And I'll be checking in from location, when I can find some WiFi.

It's in good hands.
December 30th, 2011 at 6:51 PM ^
I'll do my best. If you're on certain circuits where there are sh*t tons of trees....I'll call my friend in Line Clearance, then my friends at Ann Arbor Service Center. I am better connected than I look in my icon.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:04 PM ^
Just keep the the 3rd running. (You know, unless the game gets ugly...then you can have a mercy power outtage).

And better connected than THAT?!? I didn't think that was possible.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:07 PM ^
I am not just some random dude that likes ponies...I am a random dude who likes ponies and has some influence, all thanks to my Michigan degrees. LOL
December 30th, 2011 at 9:02 PM ^
You picked ND last night? you must like Kelly a lot.:)
December 30th, 2011 at 6:32 PM ^
Mississippi State wins this one too much SEC speed.
December 30th, 2011 at 6:40 PM ^
But I may still be smarting from last year.
December 30th, 2011 at 6:40 PM ^
I expected Miss St to be a 9-10 win team this year after how they played last year, not just against us. 6-6 baffles me
December 30th, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
West.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:08 PM ^
Michigan quit.
December 30th, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
In the picture in picture.
December 30th, 2011 at 6:50 PM ^
Some wanted Dan Mullen as our coach too.
December 30th, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
PennSt has interest in him
December 30th, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
No way Dan Mullen goes there. Bill Parcells is going get the nod for sure.
December 30th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
Yet again a team switches to flat painted helmets, and yet again it looks terrible.
December 30th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....I am having PTSD style twiches hearing the Miss State cowbells...I wish I saved the money and watched the gator bowl from home last year. Seeing that tire fire from the front row in Jacksonville gave me nightmares for weeks.
December 30th, 2011 at 6:53 PM ^
It comes up every time there is an opening somewhere...Miss. St. just seems like the purgatory of the SEC West.
December 30th, 2011 at 6:54 PM ^
just when I almost got the ringing out of my ears from last years bowl game, the cowbells return to my TV
December 30th, 2011 at 7:03 PM ^
If they handed out 15,000 kazoos or slide whistles it would be slightly less bad as those effing bells. They should get the vuvuzela ban, straight up.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:05 PM ^
I want to see a bowl game logistical nightmare that is also a total non-sequitir.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:08 PM ^
...in the Michigan Health System commercial?" argument coming...
December 30th, 2011 at 7:06 PM ^
I just pictured the sound of 15,000 slide whistles going off.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:11 PM ^
Down with the SEC, go Wake.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:11 PM ^
That is one way to shut up the cow bells.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:15 PM ^
They very nearly get these drives going, and Wake Forest somehow manages to get the ball...and then do nothing with it. Fun game so far.
EDIT: With that being said, TD Wake Forest.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:16 PM ^
Let's call it what we are all thinking, TD ACC.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:17 PM ^
AY-SEE-SEE-SPEEEEEEED!!! Go Deacons!
December 30th, 2011 at 7:28 PM ^
ESS-EEE-CEE SPEED! TD Bulldogs.
We have the game we were expecting now.
EDIT: Zone coverage is easy when you're the only defender in one parsec of space.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:33 PM ^
It does not fit and its seriously getting old...
December 30th, 2011 at 7:40 PM ^
you must use it...
December 30th, 2011 at 7:38 PM ^
as they did a year ago...
December 30th, 2011 at 7:38 PM ^
Way to go Wake. That WR was wide open.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:39 PM ^
potent as last year.
December 30th, 2011 at 7:53 PM ^
Bumphis is such a Mississippi last name.
December 30th, 2011 at 8:09 PM ^
The helmet got the first down anyway...as well as the ball.
I think the challenge gets shot down. That looked like a first down.
EDIT: Kick catch interference - you don't see this called everyday, unless you destroy the KR on a routine basis as he is attempting to catch a kick.
December 30th, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
ringing those bells is a weak substitute for clapping and cheering like err one else
Also, they are essentially adult-use baby rattles
December 30th, 2011 at 9:32 PM ^
Man, these cowbells are annoying. Had to turn off the sound to the tv for this one, just couldn't take it anymore.
December 30th, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
You could have had the FG, but instead you took the INT in the end zone. Your cajones astound.
16-7 Miss. State going to halftime. I like it, for the most part. I'll be right here for the 2nd half.
December 30th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
Well, that keeps this game sort of interesting going into the half.
December 30th, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
Does ESPN think they need to contract with Nelly (or Big 'n Rich) to write a special song for college football coverage to increase its profits? Has anyone ever tuned into a bowl game between 6-6 teams to see a commercial with Nelly?
December 30th, 2011 at 8:39 PM ^
I watch bowl games between 6-6 teams for the plot myself.
December 30th, 2011 at 8:43 PM ^
I mean, ESPN paid Nelly something to write that song. Alternately, they could have gotten Pepsi to pay them to cover those 30 second spots. Viewership doesn't change and ESPN gets more money. WTF?
December 30th, 2011 at 8:48 PM ^
They must figure that Nelly gets two more people to watch than Pepsi would. Either that, or Nelly mortgaged his future to flood the airwaves.
December 30th, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
ESPN marketing manager imagines a prospective fan...
Fan: "You know, I've never been interested in college football."
/three weeks later
Fan: "Nelly has a song on ESPN??? Why yes, the Belk Bowl sounds intriguing now."
December 30th, 2011 at 9:08 PM ^
ESPN: "Have you ever watched CFB because you genuinely like football?"
Subject: "No."
ESPN: "Excellent! We have something to show you! This way, please...."
December 30th, 2011 at 9:15 PM ^
ESPN: "Are there any Texas Tech grads in the room?"
Focus group in Connecticut looks confused.
ESPN: "Anyone ever been sued by an employee's dad for being mean?"
Focus group looks really uncomfortable.
ESPN: "Great, let me introduce you to your announcing team."
Two people start to leave.
ESPN to aide: "Quick, cue Nelly."
People:
ESPN: We've got our song.
December 30th, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
I bet my life that Nelly did not write that song.
