OT: What should Bacon's next book be about?

Submitted by mGrowOld on

With all the debate, discussion and basically reliving of the RR years on the board recently it is clear that Bacon's book has struck a MAJOR nerve on the board and with Michigan football fans everywhere.  My question is what's next?  If you could pick any sports-related topic to have John Bacon turn his investigative journalism skills to reveal/expose the REAL truth on what would it be?

My vote would be a book on the 2009-2010 Cleveland Cavaliers.  That team rolled through the regular season, accumulated the best record in the NBA by far thereby securing home court throughout the playoffs and promptly crumbled after game 3 in the second round against Boston.  Something clearly happened but what?  Did Lebron know he was leaving for Miami and thereby tanked the final games to clear his path for exit? (Dan Gilbert version) Did Delonte West really hook up with Lebron's mom Gloria only to be found out by Lebron late one night in Boston? (Internet gossip version).  Did a fight actually break out on the team plane coming home from Boston between Shaq, the head coach Mike Brown and a currently unnamed player (widely speculated to be Lebron)?  What really happened because something sure did.

Bill Simmons calls this the "greatest unwritten book" in sports right now and I agree with him.  I would love to know the truth of what occurred with that team but there are lots and lots of other unsolved sports mystery's.

What's yours?

Would be really interesting if he could get all-access with some high-profile college stars starting around 9th grade and follow them through the recruiting process.

I'd love to see a Jim Tressel biography.  I'm sure it wouldn't be authorized but I bet Mr. Bacon would do a fair and balanced job of it.

Another great idea would be to have him do a book about the (hopefully) return to greatness of Michigan football under Brady Hoke.  Give the guy another 3 years of unfettered access please.  Haven't read Three and Out yet but it sounds like he did a damn good job.

Including how Denard Robinson's heisman season started off by beating Alabama at Texas Stadium.  It will be interesting to read about how the defense was anchored by Craig Roh as he accumulated 18 sacks, and single handedly took over the Ohio game by sacking Braxton Miller 4 times.

It will be a real page turner.....

PSA for all you current UM students on the board...

John U. Bacon will return to teaching next semester.  He will be teaching Education 212: The American Merger of Academics and Athletics.  Sounds like a great class but space will undoutedly be limited (Bacon's classes usually fill up extraordinarily fast).

Sounds like a pretty good opportunity to take a class with the dude who had incredible access to the Michigan football program.

I think it would be interesting to see how RichRod is received at his next coaching stop, although from everything said, he isn't too thrilled with Bacon, so I don't think that is happening

While I think Bacon's book is the closest we'll ever get to knowing the mess behind the past few years, there are quite a few things in there that may be stretching the truth a bit. It's not as if Bacon was completely impartial.

I doubt he will be able to write about Michigan football since he's stuck hanging out with Drew Sharp in the press box. Don't see him having the desire to write about any professional sports teams or players (unless it was a former Michigan guy).

I hope he updates "Blue Ice" within the next 10-15 years.

Outside of Michigan, I would like to see him write a book on Bobby Bowden and his "retirement" and Joe Paterno at Penn State and see how different their experiences were.

Bacon's next book:  an expose on industrial grade bacon and how it is harming the digestive systems of American youth...

Seriously, would love to see Bacon write the biography, hopefully authorized, of Chris Webber.  That book would be a nice wrap up to the basketball scandals of the 90s.

Some ideas from someone whose last name also is "Cook", oddly enough.
