Are most of u excited about gant? He seems good to me but it seems we should slow play him to get the higher prospects on out board. What do u guys think? I would be happy with him at UM but idk why we need to take him now

for mentioning slow playing and such, but I am in the camp of those who believe we have better prospects than Gant left on the board and am left wondering why he got his offer so early. There were a couple others who I thought were better, but the coaches could very well have some inside info that has lead them down this path that no one else is aware of.

Don't get me wrong though, he is a good prospect. I just like some of the others a little more is all.

I wonder how many of you who want to slow play Gant actually have knowledge of his game or just go off of scout and rivals ranking of him? Just because he doesn't do the combines doesn't mean this kid isn't really good. I've seen him play and I'd love to have him.

since you obviously feel you are the authority on such things why not mention your credentials?

I based my opinion on a few things:

1) his highlight videos contrasted with other safety prospects we offered

2) the opinion of people on this board who have proven over time to be very good judges on talent (Magnus and a couple others)

3) (and least of all) recruting services information

Before you get pissy about my response remember, you asked and I answered. Just because someone has a different opinon on a prospect doesn't men you have to take it personally. No one said they didn't want him or thought he sucked. I (and a couple others) simply said we felt there were others prospects left on the board that are more talented.

No need to get so combative I was simply asking a question. I've seen many others who have been uspet with us going after Gant because of him not being highly rated. Most of these people had never watched his tape or attended a game of his in person. They also did not have knowledge that he and his family were not very concerned with attending recruiting combines. I never said that was you. I have been fortunate to see Mr. Gant in person and I was thoroughly impressed. I think he's exactly what we need in a safety.

He has an extremely high motor, great ball hawking skills, very good lateral quickness, good size, and a very very high football IQ. Sorry I don't see the need in questioning a kid that will be Blue.

Go Blue and welcome to the family Allen.

but the tone of what you said essentially called out those who didn't agree with your assessment of Gant and insinuated they must be recruiting site junkies who can't make an assessment without basing it entirely on recruiting sites information.

Again, no one said they didn't want him or thought he wouldn't turn out being a good safety at UM. What we said was, this early in the cycle there are more talented safeties (in our minds, anyway] out there that we are still in good standing with and taking Gant with so few slots left means there may not be room for some of those we thought might be better in this class.

Just because you differ with someone else doesn't mean they are an idiot who can't make an assessment on their own. That's all I'm saying.

Scout is now reporting a 15th possible commit by june 10 so there is some more speculation for everyone. Also it is saying that Dunn is still commited to tosu and that tressels departure will not be enough to make him decommit.
