It's Vincent Smith and I am checking in to give a little update the garden project. A few weeks ago we were part of a video shoot in Flint and #EATING is featured as part of a commercial for Flint Public Health campaign.
For those of you who don't know we started #EATING project and I build gardens with youth so they have good role models and learn about accountability, taking care of their neighborhoods, and how to eat healthy. We started in my hometown in Florida and now we are in Flint.
This last picture is our other Team Gardens member - from Flint and went to the NY Jets and now plays Pro Basketball in Finland. We have a group of about a dozen or so neighbor kids that we garden with.
You can read more about us at teamgardens.org
you can get our cool #EATING shirts at shopeating.com
and if you want to hang out during tailgating email me at [email protected]
If you emailed me already and heard back I am behind on emails and I am not really a computer person but I am learning to be one.
Here is a couple pictures from the Florida clean up day that we had this morning but first my cool new shirt with my new bling.
For those of you who don't know we have 2 community garden projects that is called #EATING project and we started with support from Mgoblogers so the pictures you are looking at are from the First garden in me and Martavious Odoms hometown Pahokee, Florida. It is called the H.O.P.E. Garden
Our new project here in Michigan is in Flint and we are putting a garden on an Alumni' grandma's old houses lot and also workign with 2 Elementary Schools to create gardening programs through the school year and summer to get the lead out their bodies.
You can read more and support Flint #EATING effort by coming to help and at our gofundme at https://www.gofundme.com/feedflint (or feedflint.org)
Everyone I know the loss was hard but the guys really played their best and this was a total shocker. With that being said we are only going to get stronger and losses like this only bring the team closer.
1. Flint - this Saturday (10/24) we will have a clean up day at our new site - weather permiting. We have five lots by the elementary school. On Cottage Grove on the east side. I hope some of you can make it and if anyone knows a lot about gardening and winterizing can you inbox me. New email is [email protected]
If you have a mower or tools that will help out a lot. We are working on getting our tools for up here and applying for grants.
2. Pahokee - You may recognize a good friend in the front row of the first picture (kneeling). We had 50 youth ouy and the mayor, the football team with the national honors society. We planted 20 guave trees, and some coconut trees and the back of the banana trees. Cleaned up and made our city beautiful.
Thank you for all the laughs so far this year because your comments and pictures have us cracking up. I wanted to invite everyone to a fundraiser we are having for our Flint #EATING garden project. It is at the Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti. We will be watching basketball and playing chess.
The capacity is 90 people and its from 4-8pm.
You need tickets so we can make sure theres not to many people and you can get them at http://www.teameating.com
Thank you and hope Harbaugh comes back from Texas with good news.
Hot from my inbox:
Thanks for being a backer of Love Michigan. Love Football. Plant Gardens. #EATING Project. Unfortunately, this project did not reach its funding goal by its deadline. Because funding on Kickstarter is all or nothing, your pledge of $55.00 USD has been automatically canceled and your card will not be charged.
Even though this project did not reach its goal, the fact that you showed your support is still appreciated. If you’d like to follow along with the creator’s next steps, stay tuned to their updates. You can even drop them an encouraging message or comment on their project page.
Thanks again for supporting this project.
Yahoo! has an article about Vincent Smith's (and friends) Hope for Pahokee project. The writing is lacking a lot of information on the actual project and mostly focuses on "the Hit that changed the world."
The name of his project isn't even mentioned in this article!
I guess Yahoo! at least tried to spread the word, right?
