I know this thread is a little old, but I wanted to comment in case others were looking for info on this. I am a Falcons season ticket holder and love taking my camera to the game. I photographed all but one game last season using my d700 with the 55-300 lens. Even without my pro grade lenses, I always come away with some nice shots. Here are some pics from the NFL Championship Game against the 49ers:
Security has never batted an eye when I come in with my camera bag. Some times they make me take the camera out to ensure nothing is hidden below, but they've never taken issue with the camera itself. As long as the lens is at or below 6 inches, you shouldn't have a problem. Hope that helps.
