11/19/2015 - 1:35pm Kyle Flood as the Highlander checks out.

After all, Jim Harbuagh, Urban Meyer, and Mark Dantanio haven't outlasted Kyle Flood, either.

02/11/2015 - 2:06pm Are we sure...

Are we sure that "Adam Weiss" isn't Dave Brandon's alter-ego?

12/10/2014 - 2:30pm  "...scenarios in which

"...scenarios in which Harbaugh has already agreed to the job and is going to punch Jed York on the field Sunday before escaping in a block M emblazoned helicopter, giving the stadium an epic double bird while laughing maniacally on his way out."

10/23/2014 - 1:45pm Where is Kefeng from Indy getting his numbers from?

I must have missed something. Since the beginning of 2004, Michigan is:

- 1-9 against OSU (with 2010 vacated by OSU) and

- 5-5 against MSU.

That's 6-14 if you count the vacated loss.

Since the beginning of 2008, we're 2-10 against these two teams.

When did we pick up two additional victories against them?

01/08/2014 - 5:33pm It's gonna be either...

Mike DeBord or Dave Brandon.

12/06/2013 - 3:46pm Long-time reader and most-of-the-time lurker...

Logged in to say:

Bravo, Brian.

10/10/2012 - 11:08am Shutout for the good guys.

Michigan 34

Illinois 0

06/27/2012 - 1:12pm There's absolutely no way, whatsoever.....

...that that game will start any later than 8PM Eastern.

06/12/2012 - 5:09pm This is as good as it gets, guys.

I'm just happy Brandon didn't schedule another game with Appalachian State.

Colorado agreed to a one-off with OSU because they are basically a laughingstock compared to what they used to be.

06/07/2012 - 12:53pm I have not one.....

I have not one....but both of those gnomes.

In my defense, I was in the marching band and couldn't resist. My sister gave me the other one, and it's brought some "luck" on gamedays.

In general, I think the tree face and the flamingos were much worse in the "things you put outside" category.

06/06/2012 - 6:02pm Be careful everyone.....

Did anyone read the post? He snaps with rage! RAGE!

Scott S is writing down names of everyone complaining about this. He's going to pick you out in the stadium, and he's going to snap that ball right through your chest.

I for one, welcome our new long-snapping overlord.

05/24/2012 - 12:53pm Agreed.

I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill, Ace.

Give it to players who have had their jersey number retired, should have their jersey number retired, or have won a Heisman. That's it.

05/10/2012 - 12:53pm Is that you, Aaron Shea?

If so, I haven't forgiven you for finishing my neighbor and I's Madden 97 game in South Quad during my freshman year. You probably don't remember, but he let you play for him and you proceeded to come back from a 17-point deficit in just under two minutes.

So, sorry, you're not getting my vote.

05/10/2012 - 12:43pm aka, the Pete Rose of the

aka, the Pete Rose of the mgoblog HOF.

04/19/2012 - 4:56pm Yeah, I knew I was probably

Yeah, I figured I was probably screwing up the numbers. Accountant, I am not.

However, I think we can agree that no matter the cost, this decision is dumb. It's not like sending the band will cause us to file for Chapter 11.

04/19/2012 - 4:33pm Guess again.

Former band member here. Generally, the band takes huge jumbo jets to the bowl site. You have to have something big enough to take upwards of 400 people, plus the instruments.

Also, the band rents out an entire semi-truck (and the driver) for about a week, in addition to the buses and their drivers.

I don't actually know what it costs exactly, but given my experience I'd be surprised if it's not at least $500K. Maybe for this one they'd stay at a cheaper hotel than they normally do for the bowl. But even if it was $500K, that would still be $4.2 million of profit for the AD.......

03/21/2012 - 4:52pm Am I reading these quotes correctly?

Not that I want to turn into Section 1, but....

Here are his dad's quotes in the article.....

“I think that, for the most part, when you have a season as a freshman like he did, the NBA, they like them young. They think their ceiling is higher when they’re young,” Benji Burke said today. “Trey had some good games and a solid season for a freshman. It’s going to be one of the weaker point guard drafts in years.

"The second thing is he was considered high. He does have some juice right now. It didn’t end well, but he ended up having some great games. He’s got to be one of the top five freshman guards in the country. He got a hold of some information, and you at least need to inquire.

“I can’t say he’s coming back, can’t saying he’s leaving. If it had my way, he’d be coming back.”

“Trey, he would love to come back, because he thinks they’re going to have a good team,” Benji said. “In the same breath, how do I pass up the opportunity of a lifetime, and risk injury? There’s risk on both sides. Anytime there’s risk on both and the NBA is one side, I don’t know if I’ll ever be as hot as I am now. If I had to guess, Trey would love to go to the NBA. There’s a lot of uncertainties there, as far as getting drafted first round. Those are the things we’re trying to weigh.”

Out of these fairly vanilla quotes, the Free Press headline is "Trey Burke Strongly Considering Leaving Michigan for NBA." Um, ok

First of all, Trey Burke's Dad != Trey Burke. Secondly, even if you think dad's word is the gospel, most of what he says isn't really wrong. He does aspire to play in the NBA, and he should inquire.

The wording of the headline implies that Burke is basically out the door already. They're fishing for clicks.

03/21/2012 - 4:36pm They're fishing for clicks.

And it worked on me.

03/20/2012 - 1:05pm Good write-up....

I'll disagree that it was the "Greatest Weekend in Yost History". You alluded to it....the '98 regional was better. We also went on to win the title.

10/26/2011 - 6:30pm Nope.

Losing to Iowa would be much worse than losing to Illinois. (Or Purdue or OSU, for that matter, rivalry aside.)

Say that happened and we ended up tied with Iowa and MSU for 1st in the division, each of us with two losses.

Guess who the first team eliminated is? Michigan, because we went 0-2 against the other two teams (head-to-head is the first tie-breaker). Esentially whoever wins the MSU-Iowa game would be divison champ.

In fact, the only way we're going to win most of the two-loss tiebreakers is by making sure we sweep the rest of the division for a 4-1 record in division.

09/15/2011 - 3:39pm Aw, crap.

Gotcha, my bad. Guilty of skimming here.

09/15/2011 - 1:21pm Thanks Jeff....

I went looking for my results and couldn't find them, did I make a mistake or something?

09/13/2011 - 3:04pm This is exactly.....

....what was going on in Heaven. (Ironically)

09/01/2011 - 1:57pm You didn't account for the students...

May have been brought up already, but the students aren't paying $70 a game.

If you assume you sell 20,000 student tickets, and those prices are fixed no matter who Michigan is playing, the difference in revenue is 87K * $55 - $2 million = 2.8 million, which works out to $2.28 per game if my math is right.

08/25/2011 - 2:25pm Sounds fun....

A: Oklahoma

B: Stanford

C: Wisconsin

D: Georgia

E: Florida

Unranked: Michigan

08/04/2011 - 2:09pm Winning the conference championship in odd years....

Is going to be a seriously tall task.

I don't know. Maybe Brady will have us into a soul-crushing juggernaut by then, but with Iowa, MSU, and Nebraska enjoying one more home game than we will, the degree of difficulty is going to be high.

I don't know why the league just didn't give everyone in a division the extra home game. That would make more sense. By saying teams within a division will not play the same number of home games, you're taking an unbalanced schedule and making it even more unbalanced.

04/07/2011 - 1:16pm I was at that Herr game.....

and other than the '97 OSU game (the same school year), I've never been to a better athletic event in Ann Arbor.

We were underdogs that year too. We can do it again.

02/03/2011 - 2:35pm I'll save everyone the trouble....

...of checking out the Freep.

Rosenberg wrote a positive article to add onto the pile. Surprisingly,  he also acknowledged that Hoke paid tribute to the foundation Rodriguez laid for the class.

Sharp also wrote something. It should be used as toilet paper.

11/04/2010 - 2:40pm As Chait himself has pointed out.....

It would be extremely unfair for either Chait or Brian to do investigative work into the Free Press, just like it was unfair for the Free Press to use a noted anti-Rodriguez columnist to investigate the Michigan football program.

It's time to let this all go and get on with the beating of the Illini.

10/30/2010 - 5:00pm It appears...

...that the Rally To Restore Sanity is having immediate effects.

09/18/2010 - 8:38pm Yeah, for the half....

I told my buddy at halftime that it was going to be a -20 for that half.

09/01/2010 - 4:53pm It all depends on how the conference....

....determines division champions.

Most people I know favor every game counting in the conference standings, and then the team with the best conference record in the division goes to the title game. This preserves the stakes in The Game, but it also leads to situation where you have Team A (7-1 league, 4-1 division) going to the title game ahead of Team B (6-2 league, 5-0 division, smoked Team A 49-3).

The alternative is for the division standings to determine the division champion. So Team B would go to the title game in my little hypothetical. This, of course, would reduce The Game to a glorified exhibition, and, to answer the OP question, doesn't "hurt" either team at all.

I, of course, prefer the former. But I can't wait until the year where we roll Nebraska 49-3 and crush our division, only to see Nebraska go to the title game because they drew Illinois, Indiana, and Purdue.

08/31/2010 - 2:35pm You're wrong on so many levels....

but for now I'll just point out that I live in Colorado, and the DUI limit is .08. You can also get a citation all the way down to .05.

08/26/2010 - 1:13pm Through a friend of a friend....

who graduated from UM and unfortunately lives in Dublin, OH. Not sure how he found it.

Yes, I definitely have more pressing things to do than troll Buckeye boards looking for this stuff. :)

08/24/2010 - 2:58pm It's just about impossible to keep everyone happy.

Just throwing this out there...why not continue the practice of having two protected "rivalry" games like we do now? Especially if and when the league goes to 9 games....

Bo: Michigan, MSU, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Illinois, Northwestern

Woody: OSU, PSU, Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana

TWO protected games:

Michigan - OSU and Minnesota

MSU - PSU and Indiana

Wisconsin - Iowa and Minnesota

Nebraska - OSU and Iowa

Illinois - Indiana and Purdue

Northwestern - PSU and Purdue

I'm probably fudging the rivalries a little bit, and I'm definitely fudging the balance of the schedules, but to me these divisions look pretty balanced.

My main problem is that it is really hard to maintain competitive balance within the divisions and also amongst schedules, especially within the context of maintaining as many rivalries as possible. Who knows what the Big Ten will do.

03/17/2010 - 4:15pm Good luck finding the hockey game....

I'll echo what previous posters have said about finding the hockey game in Vegas. Virtually every place has Big Ten Network, but you'll face an uphill battle to get them to put it on with the tournament going on.

I think one of your better options on the Strip may be the ESPN Zone restaurant at NYNY. If you get there early enough, you can get a table with your own TV. I also know they have Big Ten Network. But even then you may still have to get them to change one of the TVs over.

02/23/2010 - 3:47pm You know what all this reminds me of?

"I am Bender, please insert girder."

Bureaucrats, man!

02/23/2010 - 2:59am Congratulations to them....

and to Evan and Emily....all 4 of you represented Michigan and the US incredibly well. You guys gained a new fan over the past few days. Enjoy it tonight and good luck going forward!

12/31/2009 - 3:03pm You left out the part...

where everyone has to fight Chuck Norris.

12/16/2009 - 3:48pm Why does everyone think having UM and OSU...

in the same division will lead to a Big 12 South type of scenario?

Let's say the 12th team is Pitt.

And let's say the divisions are:

UM / OSU / MSU / Illinois / Northwestern / Purdue
PSU / Pitt / Wisky / Minny / Iowa / Indiana

People really think that second division is weak? I think it would be pretty hard, outside of Indiana.

Those divisions also work pretty well for basketball.....

12/09/2009 - 6:41pm Nice work. I cleaned up the 2nd paragraph for you....

I'd show up at Newberry to kick ass, turn around, and you know what... my whole team was no where to be seen. And then I remembered that they were probably all working out since that's what we always did, 18 hours a day, everyday -- otherwise Coach Rod and Barwis would beat us.'

08/13/2009 - 3:37pm San Antonio

Sorry, but I've got to disagree with you about San Antonio, and this coming from a guy who generally despises most things Texas.

I've been to most of the bowl sites and games (except Tampa), and San Antonio is by far my favorite. It's warm, there's unbelievable food, great bars, obviously -- the Riverwalk, and Austin is about a couple hours away. We had a fantastic time, even if OH GOD PLEASE PITCH IT TO BREASTON AND WHAT ARE YOU ALL DOING ON THE FIELD happened.

03/11/2009 - 1:17am Bilas

This may have been brought up somewhere else, but this video of Bilas is particularly satisfying schadenfreude.

03/04/2009 - 4:45pm OFFICAL, PER THE AANEWS

Opponent is FYS on Dec 11, 2010.

09/17/2008 - 5:25pm Game Day stuff...

I'm slightly biased, as I was in the MMB, but checking out marching band practice is usually fun and always fires me up for the game. You can get the band's game-day routine from their website (, but they're usually out there at 8AM for a noon game, or 10AM for a later game. And if you don't want to get there that early, the percussion and flag corps puts on a step show about 90 minutes prior to kickoff in front of Revelli Hall.

The best tailgating is usally found on the golf course, but it's pricey. I know it was $40 and God forbid if they increased the prices this year.
