Ya but the program was falling off a cliff by Hoke's last year. The Big Ten championship and the quality of the Ohio State team he beat put Harbaugh far ahead of Hoke.
Notre Dame plays a far easier schedule than Alabama. They've also gotten smashed in their last two national championship appearances, including an absolute steam-rolling from Alabama in 2013. Acting like Notre Dame and Alabama have taken different paths to the same outcome is just wrong. Also, pretending like ND has found some kind of secret success beyond what Michigan has achieved in the last 10 years is ridiculous. If the schedules were switched, I'd bet Michigan would have a similarly uninspiring playoff appearance on their resume.
I actually don't think this is a terrible idea IF Warde has information that these last 3 game plans have been Harbaugh overriding Gattis and not Gattis going soft. If Gattis still wants to run the quarterback, attack the field vertically with the passing game, and not be so predictable with the play calling, I think he showed enough creativity in a six game stretch or so at the end of last season to prove he can score some points. The bonus is he can clearly recruit on the offensive side of the ball and we'd maintain a very good offensive recruiting class. Then go get Partridge on defense and suddenly we can recruit with anybody. That's all assuming that Harbaugh is the one who's been controlling the last few games offensively though.
100% agree. We have to wait until JJ gets here before we start talking about canning Harbaugh IMO. If he can't win with an elite quarterback it's time for him to leave. But until then, getting rid of him would just set the program back and waist JJ's precious few years at UM.
15 years ago no one thought Clemson had some kind of secret advantage over us. Now suddenly they're winning just because they stopped caring about academics? When have they ever cared about academics? They're better than us because their coaches are smarter than ours and they found a way to win in order to recruit at a very high level. They also managed to do it at a far less prestigious program than Michigan. Blaming it on academics is such a pathetic excuse.

With the class that Howard just put together, you have to wonder when the recruiting excuses are going to run out for Harbaugh.
