I think a lot of it has to do with the opponent and the time of day the game is played. I really wish we were not stuck in the noon slot for the Ohio game. I can only imagine how electric the atmosphere would be if it were a 3:30 kick off or in prime time.
I think this shows the vast difference in fanbases. While Michigan was getting destroyed by crossing routes in man coverage during Don Browns tenure the majority of fans assigned accountability to the defensive scheme and Don Brown. The coaching staff also adjusted accordingly and held people accountable while recruiting to fix an issue. Those adjustments lead to almost immediate results. Ohio refuses to assign accountability. Nothing is their fault and they assign blame elsewhere. As long as this continues to happen Michigan will continue to own the rivalry. I personally am a large fan of their inability to hold themselves accountable and hope it continues to happen. I guess when they aint come to play school things take a little longer to figure out.
I know this isn’t an apples to apples comparison but I believe there are some similarities between cultures. In the Coker era at Miami they were involved in a huge on-field fight with FIU. Coker’s teams were notorious for lacking a respectful culture. His players received a one game suspension and he was not fired over the incident. Like I said, not apples to apples but some similarities with lack of control and culture issues.
Assuming you were cherry picking, the backside wing would be getting back on defense as soon as the shot was taken. Leaving a guy open on the other end prevents him from crashing the board. So your team would have to get the rebound, turn, and throw an absolute dime to you on the other end before the backside defender reaches the free throw line. You would have to catch the ball, not travel, and proceed to hit a lay up without getting your shot blocked. The intimidation factor alone of Ja Morant barreling down on you would be enough to cause you to miss. So no, even in the easiest scenario it's not possible.
