Yes, of course Nassar is a monster and MSU should be ashamed and sanctioned for what they did.  I never claimed otherwise.  And I agree the story should be kept visible.  Never said otherwise.  What I said is that mgoblog users seem to have an unhealthy obsession with this story.  How many of these forum topics are intended to keep the story visible, and how many are now simply mob-like gravedancing?  If its the former (don't think it is anymore), then that's ok.  If it's the latter (think it's become that), then is beyond schadenfreude because it's using systematic sexual predation to justify selfish feelings toward a sports rival, and that's disgusting.

MSU is hoping that mgoblog readers stop obsessing with the story?  Well, at least that's an implicit admission that mgoblog readers are obsessing with the story.  I guess I'm not the only one.  Thanks Yossarian!

Wish this community would stop obsessing with this story.  Am I the only one who feels this way?  It does seem like an obsession - every day there's a new forum topic dedicated to MSU/Nassar.  This has been going on for months.

"His uncanny ability to get to the basket in bad situations has been a bedrock of Michigan's late clock offense for years, and remains so."

This.  This.  This.  Throughout his time here, MAAR has consistently bailed out 30 seconds of perimeter passing with a late but successful slash to the bucket.  I wish we weren't in those situations, but I'm exceedingly thankful that he's got the ability to shoulder the bailout burden.

On the other hand, great win!  Gotta be excited to see what this team can achieve in March and in the years to come.  Go Blue!

This is a really good idea.  The OP is willing to organize and coordinate.  It's not that difficult to do.  I subscribe to and we have annual regional meet-ups where forum members gather together at a host's house to drink beer, BBQ, and geek out on audiophile stuff.  It's always a blast and it's always great to meet the real person behind the avatar.  OP, if I wasn't on the east coast I'd say include me on your list.  If this happens, anyone who goes is going to really enjoy it.

Fan of these guys.  Several years ago a student of mine tipped me off to them and I picked up a copy of Thrill of the Arts (which has a couple tracks featuring David T. Walker on guitar).  One of my favorites:

Agree with a previous poster who said they can be a bit much with the artsy stuff.  But whatever.  The music is solid.

Unfortunately you speak the truth, brother.

01/09/2018 - 8:48am For me it boils down to

For me it boils down to consistent depth and quality at the quarterback position.  For the past decade, Michigan's had spots where they've had one good, competent QB.  If something happens to that person, we're SOL.  OSU on the other hand has had a decade of high quality depth at the QB position.  If something happens to their starter, the first backup is as competent as the man he's replacing.  Pryor, Miller, Barrett, Jones, and now Haskins.  It's ALWAYS next man up at OSU.  It doesn't matter if they're a senior or a freshman, whoever OSU puts out there at QB plays at a very high level.  Look at their 2014 team.  Miller goes down with an injury preseason so Barrett has to step in as a RS freshman to start the season.  He goes 10-1 entering The Game, where he exits with an injury.  Jones enters, seals the game, goes on to whip Wisconsin in his first career start in the B1G title game, and then runs through the playoffs for a national championship.  This is next man up football that Michigan has not demonstrated an ability to produce for the past decade.  Last night's game was another example with Tagovailoa coming in after the half and leading Alabama to victory.  Whoever Alabama puts under center plays seems to play championship level football.  And there's never any excuses about them being freshman or not having time to learn the offense or whatever.  We haven't had that ability to absorb signifiant losses, especially at the QB position, and we've paid the price when the starter goes down or if the starter isn't good enough.

On the bright side, I think we're finally starting to bulk up at QB (but I agree with OP that Peters is behind).  Now if we could just figure out that OT position.

12/14/2017 - 9:45am Demi-logic

Maybe.  But a little stiffer competition still allows for that and it has the added advantage of elevating both individual and team play.  And it would show who is ready and willing to be leaders on this team.  I'm not sure you get that with cupcake scheduling.

12/14/2017 - 9:41am Right?

Yeah, I thought the AD's office have as much to say about scheduling as the head coaching staff.  Or am I wrong?

12/12/2017 - 3:00pm Uber/Lyft Hot Take

"Opposing ridesharing" is a poor black/white mischaracterization of the issue.  AA council didn't vote three years ago on whether or not Uber and Lyft could opperate in the city.  They actually debated whether or not rideshare services should be subject to the same rules and regulations that govern taxis and limos (which exist to ensure safe vehicles).  It's a little more nuanced and not quite as dramatic "opposing ridesharing in a college town is tantamount to endorsing drunk driving."

12/07/2017 - 11:25am Well, yeah, they are at least

Well, yeah, they are at least partially responsible.  Certainly true that big box stores are in decline and Brandon knew this when he took the job, so he knew the challenge ahead.  But some stores are surviving because they've adapted to a new reality, so it's not like bankruptcy was an inevitable outcome.  DB was in charge of a company that he knew had to adapt, that did not sufficiently adapt, and that's on him and the other (past and present) execs.  I will note this is particularly ironic for someone who was always looking to "innovate the space."  Guess he couldn't back up his rhetoric with results (although we already knew that from our experience with him).

As for my second point, am I incorrect if the management team retains independent decision making power?  Because the management could have made the decision to NOT give multi-million dollar bonuses to themselves (and consequently privileging their own plan to steer the company through the bankruptcy process), regardless of whether or not the courts have final say over payment.

EDIT: If the execs do not get to award themselves bonuses, then I am incorrect on point two.

12/07/2017 - 10:48am Yeah.  You were close to that

Yeah.  You were close to that so know more, but I'm guessing he got his name on it for the $$$ raised more than anything else.

12/07/2017 - 10:08am I don't disagree with you

I don't disagree with you that Bill Martin made bad decisions.  Clearly he did.  What I disagree with is the equivalency you're drawing between Martin and Brandon. The quantity and quality of Brandon's bad decisions negatively impacted our football program more than Martin's.  That's all I'm saying.
