Man. I hope he's OK. Maybe…

Man. I hope he's OK. Maybe it's just a job thing or some interpersonal stuff, but this after his seizure a while back gives me a very uncomfortable feeling.

I'll go out on a limb and…

I'll go out on a limb and say any of the (few) people who criticized him for that mistake have never fielded a punt at all, much less one in a close game against Alabama in the Rose Bowl.

Yeah, it was getting sad…

Yeah, it was getting sad toward the end. I was getting some Brady Hoke/Shane Morris Vibes.

Not the same situation, of course-- rib fractures aren't concussions, The Washington staff was checking with him after each play, and he was actually competing for something. Still, it was becoming painful to see.

Whatever the out come of the…

Whatever the out come of the game, let's all remember the real winners:
Aflac
AT&T
Allstate
Geico
Dr. Pepper
Etc.

So much for Donovan coming…

So much for the possibility of Donovan coming back!

Gut feeling is they play him…

Gut feeling is they play him at guard, not center.

Ah you're right!

Ah you're right!

I'm in Durham and currently…

I'm in Durham and currently don't have plans. Might end up at the BWWs watch party.

I don't recall ever seeing…

I don't recall ever seeing him quite like that. He really looks like he's relaxed and having fun.

I was at Duke for med school…

I was at Duke for med school and have casually followed their football program since. As a fan of both schools, I would have much preferred Knowles.

Good to hear. I was pretty…

Good to hear. I was pretty worried; when someone has a knee injury and gets rushed to the hospital immediately, it often means there is concern for an arterial injury. If that happens, the distal musculature can lose perfusion and will die if not emergently treated. We’ve seen careers end this way before. Hoping Zinter is OK.

Edit: some are reporting a tib/fib fracture. He's done at Michigan, but it's much better news for him. I thought it looked like his knee.

I heard Uncle T has some…

I heard Uncle T has some extra cash now.

The rumor is he's being paid…

The rumor is he's being paid not to attend.

In my opinion, Harbaugh is…

In my opinion, Harbaugh is 100% gone after this year if an NFL club offers. He has clearly been trending that way over the past few years, and between the NCAA/B1G target on his back and lack of institutional support (if the Board of Regents did indeed close this deal with the B1G), he has no reason to stay.

I'm at peace with that. He'd be one of the greatest coaches we've had and would be leaving the program in a far better spot than it occupied when he took over. Sherrone would clearly be next in line with a win over OSU.

The more interesting scenario, of course, occurs if the NFL doesn't knock. Will Sherrone stick around?

Yeah... no. We simply played…

Yeah... no. We simply played not to lose, and that was the right choice.

We were running the ball just well enough and winning by two possessions. Unfortunately, our tackles couldn't stop the pass rush (and faired worse than their OSU counterparts, if I remember correctly). So, it was very possible that a pressured JJ would throw an interception and that would open a clear avenue for a loss.

With the PSU offense unable to do anything meaningful, there was minimal chance they could make up the difference if we just drained the clock.

This was a good, gritty win in a tough environment after a hard week, and it's worth celebrating as such. But it was also a warning sign about our line's ability to hold up in the pass game.

Three swears live on Fox was…

Three swears live on Fox was the perfect way to cap off a tough win after a tough week.

Nothing too weird. I've had…

Nothing too weird. I've had a few as patients back when I was in Ann Arbor. We forget how young they are when watching the games.

The sister of a couple MSU-turned-NFL players was a med student who rotated at my institution. She did a good job.

Bullshit.
If an NFL team…

Bullshit.

If an NFL team wants him, why the hell would they immediately suspend him?

I forgot about that…

I forgot about that interview. It was a rough listen.

I'm sort of more interested…

I'm sort of more interested in how we might improve the legal practice of sign stealing. Does our vast network use any AI assistance? One could draw up a program that matches play elements to sign combinations and wouldn't need any pre-game scouting-- just a couple early drives.

I'm sure this already exists.

BoFan,
I'm not sure what…

BoFan,

I'm not sure what your qualifications are, nor precisely how you arrived at the conclusion that I "don't have any understanding of how companies and investors are required to make decisions" from my post. This is especially surprising since in addition to my clinical work, I co-lead a med-tech company and, well, make those decisions, albeit on a relatively small scale. This isn't unfamiliar territory to me.

I believe your anecdote about your Harvard-trained friend. There are instances of staged therapeutic deployment, unfortunately. Examples I could list include various medications and (I suspect) at least one case with vascular stents. I'm certain there are many others. Yes, this leads to unnecessary morbidity and mortality. No, it's not the same as withholding development of a sweeping cure for cancer. It's also lightyears from the scope of the clearly-conspiratorial comment I replied to and reflects a nuance that would not have distracted from my point.

The 200 drugs you mention (or devices as stated later--which were they?) for an unspecified disease is too vague to mean anything, but I'll buy that too; the nature of chronic disease specifies lack of a current or anticipated cure. We focus on mitigating damage, slowing progression, minimizing suffering, etc., and our advances reflect those goals. Yes, I'd love a cure for peripheral arterial disease. My vascular surgery colleagues would be happily out of work. Precisely zero of them expect this to happen.

Your writing suggests you're an intelligent person, and perhaps someone with experience in corporate management, finance, or legal work. Unfortunately, it also suggests you may believe at least some of the conspiratorial elements I was responding to, if perhaps not by label. I hope that is not the case. Be well and go blue.

EDIT: I just saw your post, "As doctors have explained to me, they focus solely on approved treatments and not basic research." This suggests a staggering lack of insight into how medical advances are developed. I have numerous colleagues who are very accomplished basic science researchers as well as clinicians. I'm less of a researcher these days, but still maintain some involvement in basic and translational science. This is the case for perhaps the majority of us at academic centers.

I never have. The days of…

I never have. The days of that happening are mostly gone, though this practice may persist for certain surgical devices.

Some physicians get consulting fees for various companies or device manufacturers. These are not dependent on use or prescriptions. I've made less than $500 doing this, and only in giving market research feedback.

Physician kickback information is actually available publicly following the Sunshine Act. You can use https://openpaymentsdata.cms.gov/search to find this information. For the most part, you'll find it pretty boring.

EDIT: No need to downvote his question. Many people are suspicious of that physician kickbacks. He's not wrong to ask.

Physician here, and I wish…

Physician here, and I wish this conspiracy would die.

Science aside, if a catch-all cure was available, you don't think some pharma company wouldn't want to instantly become simultaneously the wealthiest and most celebrated group of all time? That's what a true cancer cure would do.

You think that there is a conspiracy between absurdly wealthy pharma CEOs, struggling scientists, overworked grad students, public health employees, and the oncologists who actually care for dying cancer patients every day to keep a cure secret for the sake of profits? And you think this conspiracy extends not only between competing companies, but across the entire freaking globe?

And you think that their holding this conspiracy despite having discovered and released near-cures for many cancers already? Many childhood lymphomas, for example, were death sentences when I was born. Today, survival rates for some are in the high 90% range.

Remember that cancer affects everyone. That includes even the most miserly pharma higher-ups. We all want cancer cured.

I've worked (peripherally)…

I've worked with one of his former quarterbacks a few times. I once asked what he thought of Franklin in passing and he told me, cryptically, "good coach... not a good person."

Same with C. Johnson. He…

Same with C. Johnson. He should be at +1, not -1.

It's a great matchup. I don…

It's a great matchup. I don't follow Texas football, but I expect Michigan will take a significant step back next year. We'll be potentially losing our quarterback (without a clear next-up), most of our starting O-line, receivers and running backs. We may have significant coaching turnover as well. Especially early in the season with a young Michigan team composed from a couple lower recruiting classes, it's hard not to think Texas will hold the edge.

I'm sure there is more to…

I'm sure there is more to the story as well. They were calling each other for half an hour at night every other week for over a year to discuss professional matters? Come on.

Certainly there was reciprocal romantic interest for some of that time. I think I believe his claim she sent flirty texts, pictures, etc., at least at some point in their relationship. None of that invalidates her harassment claim.

Still, even if everything he wrote is true and the weird one-way phone sex thing was consensual (which, to be clear, I do not believe), this is still 100% a fireable offense, with cause. The MSU football program caught a huge break here.

I don't think there are many…

I don't think there are many charitable ways to look at MSU's response this situation. They've known what happened with Mel's own partial admission for months. And they kept quiet and let him coach on until the news leaked to the public today. The only thing that changed was public awareness of the situation. It's the ultimate "only wrong if you get caught" attitude.

So, with the public clamoring for a response, they call an emergency press conference to suspend the coach they hired despite vague rumors of sexual misconduct at his prior institution. Then, they announce that his interim replacement will have support from the new associate head coach, Mark Dantonio, whose sudden retirement a few years ago seemed driven in part by fall-out after he brought in an athlete with a multitude of prior sexual assault allegations (who then proceeded to assault another student).

This is the most MSU thing ever.

Great pick by Locksley.

Great pick by Locksley.
Mel and Walters coming in solid with Prince.

Schiano had to pick the hometown hero.
Lol, Harbaugh.

What does he have against…

What does he have against Davis??

Had the exact same thought.

Had the exact same thought.

We've all been there...
The…

We've all been there...

The decision between something unexpected, intriguing, new, controversial and the thing we know in our gut is what we'll ultimately pick. We just haven't committed to it yet. The possibility of the alternative is hard to let go.

Ohio State lock.

I would actually love to see…

I would actually love to see a collection of old Hello posts that never happened with a reflection on how accurate they wound up becoming.

He has, on at least one…

He has, on at least one occasion, posted true insider information. Before Mike McDonald was hired or even heard of by anyone on this board, he posted that Michigan was aiming to bring in a young NFL defensive position coach for its next coordinator. No name was given, but the details were all correct.

The rest of his posts? Hard to say.

In the football vein, I…

In the football vein, I think a Past Seasons In Review series could be really cool. Maybe pick a few years from early in the Harbaugh/Hoke/RR eras and discuss what happened--the expectations, the story lines, the drama. Which players were stars we didn't know we had? Which key plays would have radically changed the season? How did the events of that year shift the program trajectory?

Don Brown's scheme worked…

Don Brown's scheme worked beautifully for what it was supposed to do: stop a QB run / QB option offense (i.e., Ohio State, 2016). Leaving cornerbacks to fend for themselves all day wasn't a bad idea; JT wasn't a great passer and we had excellent talent at the position.

Of course, Ohio State moved on to something like their current pass-happy system with Haskins. Brown half-heartedly tried to evolve, but all the talent he inherited was gone and his recruiting apathy caught up.

My sense was that the players really loved Brown for at least the first few years.

I missed that. Thanks.

I missed that. Thanks.

This sounds pretty…

This sounds pretty reasonable for what I assume is a first-time offense.

That said, I struggle to imagine a situation in which the young Mr. Crump would be permitted to continue as a student without school-enforced repercussions, should he have been a Michigan student.

I would like to see more action from the NCAA/Big 10. E.g., Athletes involved may not play in the rival game next year; both as punishment and as a safety measure for both sides.

There's something very…

There's something very telling about the head football coach informing the university president, who in turn informs the athletic director. At minimum, Harbaugh and Warde are not on good terms. Quite possibly, Warde is on his way out.

For me, it's mostly just…

For me, it's mostly just wearing a hairnet over my scrub cap (stupid) and hiding my drugs in the omnicell (wise).

Oh, you mean move-all-the…

Oh, you mean move-all-the-beds-out-of-the-halls day?

On the plus side, I'm…

On the plus side, I'm guessing this means Wilson and Johnson return.

Losing a playoff game we…

Losing a playoff game we should have won hurts.

tOSU (likely) winning a playoff game they probably shouldn't have been in adds to the burn.

Looking past that, the past two years have been incredible. Three or four years ago, James Franklin spoke in a press conference about how he had a "good" team, but they had not ascended to being an "elite" team yet. He swore that Penn State would get there. They have not.

Team 143 did. As an 8 year old in '97 and a high school freshman in '04, this was my first time watching a truly great Michigan team. 143 crossed the bridge Franklin discussed. Despite perforation with injuries through almost all starting groups. this team was elite. I have no doubt that a healthy Blake Corum would have us in the championship.

Just as importantly, they transformed in this game. No Michigan offense I have ever seen has thrown the ball like the one we watched today. With their backs against the wall, they forced it downfield. They looked like tOSU today; unrecognizable from the team that ran the ball over and over against Illinois a month ago--the type of team a young 5-star quarterback or receiver would want to play for.

Thank you to Aiden last year for coming back; to Cade for breaking the spell; to Blake for choosing turkeys over cars, to Ronnie for taking all the misfortune; to Mikey for taking a gamble; to Donovan for his dominant legs and non-dominant hand; to Olu for starting over; to JJ for embracing grind over flash; to Jake for setting the records, and to Coach for betting on himself.

And to 143, for making this a great ride. Let's hope a few of those who could leave choose to stay.

Go Blue.

'21, hands down.
I teared up…

'21, hands down.

I teared up. The story was perfect: Coach taking a pay cut to stay around. Hutchinson coming back with no guarantee the season would be anything but a 2020 repeat. Cade growing up game after game. Day's promise to hang 100 on us. The jeers from the media.

Even visually, the game was beautiful with our midnight blues vs OSU's red the white of the dusting of snow.

'22 made '21 better. Without it, '21 would have felt like a happy fluke. We needed to win two in a row.

If it's true that he was…

If it's true that he was down for fifteen minutes before receiving CPR as reported, he would have a terrible prognosis. Prayers for him, his family, and his team.

Another victim of the coronaries. Don't smoke, don't smoke, and please don't smoke.

And try to get good genetics.

Also allegedly a doc (albeit…

Also allegedly a doc (albeit not a spine surgeon), and I 100% echo this. I'm not familiar with Eric's surgeon, but it looks like he was formerly a Laser Spine Institute guy. That's not a great reputation to have among physicians.

I don't know the UM spine team well, but I've worked with their ortho sports and joints groups a fair amount. They're excellent and fully invested in getting players back on the field.

I'm sure Eric made the decision that made the most sense to him, but I wonder what the South Florida "Biospine" surgeons told him to convince him to leave the UM system for his surgery. This is purely speculative, but I would guess UM recommended against operative intervention whereas this guy promised a cure.

Hoping the best for Eric.

I've always had a suspicion…

Throughout the season, I've had a suspicion that Weiss calls pass or run, and chooses the pass plays. If he calls run, then Moore chooses the run play.

The absurd thing is how MSU …

The absurd thing is how MSU (the university, not the team) has done nothing beyond instructing Mel Tucker to suspend the players. I'm pretty confident that had Michigan players been the assaulters, the university would have expelled them outright.

Re: 2 & 4: I've done degrees…

Re: 2 & 4: I've done degrees at Michigan and Duke. There is no comparison. Michigan/Ohio St is much, much bigger.
