Your take: Will Isaac get drafted?

Submitted by Larry Appleton on
The Higdon and Evans highlights made me feel like Isaac has become the forgotten man in the last quarter of the season. But despite not having huge numbers, he no doubt had been a huge contributor this year. But, seeing as he will be leaving us this year, do you think he’ll get drafted in the spring? He has the size and has averaged over 6 yards per carry. I don’t know his 40 time, and that will probably determine his fate. If he is healthy for the bowl, I’m betting Harbaugh gives him extra carries to let him show his skills, especially if the game is in hand (like he did for Rudock). Especially if that happens, I’m thinking Isaac could wind up a late-round pick. What say you?

I agree that Smith and Green struggled to find holes because they had poor vision.  Read my origional post.  I said that Isaac has good vision, but he struggled when holes shrunk and wasn't effective when he had to make something out of nothing.  In the NFL the holes shrink and you have to be able to make people miss and break tackles.

We're talking in circles.

Yes, the holes shrink in the NFL, but they shrink for other backs, too.

If Isaac has good vision and runs for 6.1 YPC and Player X has to run through people for 6.1 YPC, then what's the difference? Don't NFL players get bigger and stronger, too, in addition to getting faster?

The thing that matters most is the production, not the manner in which you get there.

Hmmm...well, he scored Michigan's only TD against Iowa in 2016. He also produced against Wisconsin in 2016 during a 14-7 victory (8 carries, 48 yards). He ran 11 times for 114 yards against Florida at the beginning of this season. And he averaged 6 yards/carry with 1 touchdown against PSU this year when Higdon averaged 3 yards/carry and Evans had 4 carries for 17 yards.

I'm not nominating him for the Hall of Fame, nor am I saying he should have been the full-time starter. But he's the subject of a lot of negativity for someone whose lowest YPC in any season was 5.64.

Lane to the punter he had against MSU at home a couple years ago and literally slowed down because he was scared to get kicked maybe and gator armed his way into a penalty. Fumbled against State this year correct? Any decent run he had over his career was followed by Ty asking for a substitution. He played soft. Yet you still want to stroke him with some pointless stats. Soft.

You're right that Ty Isaac should probably not be on the punt block team.

Yes, he fumbled against MSU. Both of the other primary running backs fumbled once this year, too.

As for substitutions, the running backs were only in for one or two plays before subbing out. Somebody even wrote a diary or two about how often Michigan subs out RBs. I don't think that's really relevant.
