The article is neccesarily vague, but it suggests (at least in my mind) that, like Marques Slocum, and many non-qualifiers Michigan generally decides not to deal with, Witherspoon has some classwork to get done before they let him on the field.

OR (and I'm not sure) - is Witherspoon under transfer rules? It was my understanding that he never got to enroll here.

A non-qualifier could play in 2009 as well, given they qualify. I thought you had to be enrolled in the school in order to "transfer", and I don' think he enrolled. But I'm definitely possibly wrong.

if he didn't qualify the LOI is null and void and he could go wherever he wanted without penalty, except for the whole not qualifying thing.

I thought I read on the Rutgers official site that he could practice but not play, so that implies he did qualify. Non-qualifiers can't practice IIRC.

Could be. I have no idea. Where's Other Brian and his recruiting-ninja skills when we need him? Or Tim from VB?

Beilein let him out of it and Legion played immediately for Kentucky.  That would seem to indicate that it's a qualifying issue, not a transferring/LOI issue.

When Rutgers got him in school they expected him to be able to play this year.  I didn't know how that was possible, but I guess if you never offically enroll you can play at another school if you get out of your LOI.  Somehow Finch is playing for IU this year after just transferring from Florida.
