I am in Panama for six weeks, and a little bit housebound evenings. Have really enjoyed these World Championships. Never understand why track and field isn't more popular in the United States. Few sports, IMO, provide such an intimate view of human beings in all their physical glory, or break down barriers between nations like track and field.

Guess it's relative, but I'm sure you're aware that attendance and viewership are smaller for track than the major sports. The upside of population growth is that lots of cool things can be sustained, including an event like the worlds, which really seem to draw a knowledgeable and appreciative crowd.

Very true indeed as has kept me going in the sport for over 50 years. I remember all of the world records set in the 1968 Mexico City games including Bob Beamon's long jump leap of 29" 2 1/2". Usain Bolt's smashing of the 100M and 200M world records more recently.

The most notable barrier was the first sub 4 minute mile done by (Sir) Roger Bannister in May 1954. Nowadays. one is not considered world class if it can't be run under 3:50!

From a media standpoint, there isn't enough drama in T&F to keep an audience riveted. This is only their perspective and perception since they can judge a major golf championship as a bigger TV draw. How boring can an MLB game be, but it can have enough dramatic moments in the late innings.

Kudos to the USA Women's 4x100M relay team for the gold!

So much goes into that race with each handoff of the baton.  Quarter of a second slip here or there and you’re racing for bronze.

Congrats Ladies!
