Tailgating playlist suggestions.

Submitted by Helloheisman on
Thought I would pose a question for the board. Other than putting the victors on repeat with some temptation thrown in I was hoping for some suggestions to spruce up the tailgating playlist. I've been altering it over the past couple years but I think it's time to overhaul it. Thoughts? Discuss.

I can dig that! I like to play a lot of native michigan band/performers (except Madonna). But I like to play red hot chili peppers, some iggy pop, bob seger, eminen, mustard plug. Kind of all over.

The tailgate playlist has to have broad appeal and be generally upbeat.  I avoid country (personally speaking) but that's about it.  Your list should also take into account where you are tailgating. There's no need to offend children and old people (eg, at Pioneer or near Crisler). Tailgates are better with many people milling in and out your area.  That's a hard vibe to reach if you can't mix in a few crowd pleasers.

I agree with having a well rounded playlist. I understand your comment about country, although I do like all types of country music. I will include some country, but usually just those artists that are either mega stars that people will recognize (Johnny Cash) or those crossover artists who again, will be recognized (Taylor Swift, FGL or to a lesser extent Zac Brown). I also like techno (yeah, I still call it techno - I'm old), but I wouldn't put any of that on a playlist if I'm trying to appeal to a broader crowd.

Queen, Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys, JT, Johnny Cash, Zac Brown Band and some Run DMC. A little something for everybody and it's almost completely PG.

you probably don't care all that much about people knowing/liking all of the stuff you are playing, so throw on some old Beastie Boys, (Paul's Boutique is my personal fave) maybe some Grand Funk (if you want some more Michigan vibes) and get some old-school party rap in there just for kicks. Think the Humpty Hump, It's Tricky etc. Always good for some impomtu booze-fueled dancing.

already in this thread.

However,  no Michigan Tailgate playlist can be complete without The Victors (try this version for a change of pace):

And an audio clip or two of Bob Ufer
