The Saturday slate for Michigan sports
Yup, it'll be a doozy. I've listed all televised events first. Including BTN+ and ACCN, despite the limited distribution for those services.
- Women's Swimming & Diving, NCAA Championships (Atlanta), 10AM ET, ESPN3
- Wrestling, NCAA Championships (Detroit), 11AM ET, ESPN, ESPNU, ESPN3
- M Water Polo @15 Indiana, 11:00am ET, BTN+
- Men's Lacrosse, @16 notre dame, 12pm ET, ACCN
- Women's Basketball, vs. American, NCAAT (AA!), 3:30pm ET, ESPN2
- Men's Basketball, vs 3 Tennessee, NCAAT (Indy), 5:15pm ET, CBS
- Women's Gymnastics, BT Championships (Cbus), 5:30pm ET, BTN
- Ice Hockey, @2 Minnesota, Big Ten Tournament, 7:00pm ET, BTN
There may be a little overlap between M and W basketball, but not hopefully much. A little overlap between M bball and hockey, but also hopefully not much. We just need to beat Tennessee in regulation is all. W Gymnastics is stuck in the middle between MBB and hockey.
Other sports not on TV
- M & W Track & Field, Black & Gold Invitational (UCF), 12pm ET
- W Soccer @ EMU, 2pm ET
Great day for U of M sports.... GO BLUE

Definitely. We have opportunities to:
- Win the national championship in Wrestling
- Win the national championship in W Swimming & Diving
- Win the Big Ten championship in W Gymnastics
- Win the Big Ten championship in Ice Hockey
Also, MBB can advance to the Sweet 16 AGAIN and WBB can take their first step to a second straight Sweet 16 - and maybe more - themselves.
EDIT:
Last season was the first time WBB ever made it to the S16 and, at #6, was their highest seed ever.
This season, they are again their highest seed ever at #3 and could, for the first time ever, advance beyond the S16.

And secure a share of the Big Ten championship in men's gymnastics with a win today

I'll add one more sports viewing option for the subset of MGoUsers who are also Detroit Tigers fans: Bally Sports Detroit will be televising today's Grapefruit League spring training opener, the Tigers vs the Phillies in Lakeland, @1pm.
While it's only an exhibition game, it's the first opportunity this year to catch a glimpse of a Detroit pro team with the potential to have a breakthrough season. But it's also Baseball, and for many of us baseball ⚾ is the first true sign of spring 🌷🦋🌼🐝
Maybe something to flip the channels to watch, in between NCAA commercial breaks, at halftime, and during early afternoon blowouts.

Good news: The hockey game actually starts at 7pm CT (8pm ET), which makes it less likely to overlap with basketball. Should be a great day of Michigan sports!
March 18th, 2022 at 11:39 AM ^
Good catch! I completely missed the fact that it had CT after the time!
Should be little to no overlap with MBB.

I've got the feeling that you know the story behind that photo, XM, but for those who aren't familiar with it:
At the peak of the Wings-Leafs rivalry in the 1950s, Lindsay played under a death threat in a playoff game at Maple Leaf Gardens. After scoring the game-tying goal, he netted the game-winner in OT and promptly skated around the ice, spraying imaginary bullets toward the fans and his would-be assassin.
i think i responded to one of your posts years ago that terrible ted was known as 'scarface' in our house, a long-time friend of my father's. last time i saw ted was at the joe, after my father had passed. he and i talked for a while and i told him about dad. good guy. also gave me equipment back in the day when i played for the jr. wings and he was still with the wings as the GM.

Michigan's 125 pound wrestler started the day off spectacularly with a pinfall win in the quarterfinals.
March 18th, 2022 at 11:14 AM ^
Said pinfall also gave Michigan the lead in the team race. Crowd was going crazy for it.

Good stuff, Andrew. Thanks for posting! Big weekend all around.
Question: is womens' soccer a spring sport? Or is that like an offseason scrimmage? I always thought it was fall.
March 18th, 2022 at 12:15 PM ^
It's a fall sport, so I think these are basically scrimmages or non-counting games.

I’m going to WBB. Not sure whether I will stay in A2 for MBB, listen on radio or dvr and watch at home. I should make it home for hockey.

Did I read that right? We now have a Men's water polo team? We've had a Women's team for a while, but a Men's team would be new. I played on the water polo club back in the day.
Ugh you're right, it's women's water polo. The listing showed just "Water Polo" so I assumed men's, not being familiar with the sport and UM teams.
thank you for the complete list!!!
