I talked to a buddy of mine once and he made a comment that rings so true after the bullcrap calls last night on the ice and then again today on the court. He said "I would rather be lucky than good." Usually I disagree with that because eventually luck runs out, but anymore I can see his point. When all you can find is bad luck (and bad calls) things get to be tough.

Last basketball game where Michigan was really severely screwed by the refs was probably the Purdue game with the BS Manny ejection. That was the same time as the ND hockey game refs screwing us over.
And go figure. This happens the night after basically a repeat of the ND hockey officiating.

Just because it happens to everyone doesn't make it alright.
And Big Ten refs seem to be especially bad. It might just be because I mostly see Big Ten refs that I think this, but I rarely have a problem with the calls in our OOC games.

Stop the fucking crying. I guarentee you that at the beginning of the year you weren't even watching M basketball. In fact, half of you are probably bandwagon fans. The only reason you are watching is that it is getting more attention. So order your M basketball shirts, and talk about it at work.
The point is, I've been watching M basketball for over 15 years. We haven't had good teams for obvious reasons. The refs have always sucked, it's not anything new. Stop your bitching.
We shouldn't make the tournament, and we won't. We are the USC of basketball this year. We play well in big games but the little ones count just as much. So we shoulnt be in the tournament like they shouldn't be in the National Championship Game.

First of all, it shouldn't matter if people are bandwagon fans or lifelong fans. That doesn't change the validity of their points.

My attitude is at your stupidity. We won 10 fucking games last year and you are complaining about refs? fucking refs? I feel like Allen Iverson right now.
We sucked last year and we are greatly improved this year. We have fucking walk ons getting a lot of pt right now. We have solid recruits coming in. I am excited!
Why the fuck would I want to give up and die? WTF dude? If we make the tourny so be it, but if we don't, then don't turn to your mommy and cry about it.

You sound like you are just content with whatever happens this year and don't want to hope for more.
I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm amazed with how well this team has done this year and I'm incredibly happy with how well they've done. But that doesn't mean that I stop hoping for them to do even better and that I don't get angry when they get screwed out of something they deserve (e.g. free throws in certain spots) because I've just decided to accept whatever happens and just give up.

I'm just saying don't go ballistic over it. The refs were shittier than my asshole today after a buffet dinner last night. But it happens. And this team is much much better than last. Lets all just calm down.

I agree that it happens. And I agree that this team is much better than the last. But I don't agree that we shouldn't go ballistic over it. Sure, nothing will change from us going ballistic over it, but it's part of being a fan, being so into your team that you get angry when calls don't go their way (especially ones that could potentially be the decision of whether we make the tournament or not). And we will calm down, just not for a little while.

But Jay, "everyone complains about the refs" doesn't excuse shitty refereeing. I understand that the fanbase of every team in every sport after every game ever complains about the refereeing - but this refereeing actually did suck - badly. The fact that "it's common", or "everyone says that" doesn't make the point less valid - in the final minute there was a horseshit no-call on a Manny drive, and then the worst foul call in recent memory on Sims at the other end.

What I'm saying is that his admonishment to not bitch about the refs because they always suck doesn't make sense. They single-handedly caused a 4-0 run in the final 45 seconds of a close game. Who cares is their general level of performance is "shitty"? Does that make it better?

Except USC was good and lost one game early just like Florida, OU, and Texas. As far as playing well in big games, wasn't this game a big game saying that if we lose we probably won't make it into the tourney unless we win the Big Ten tournament?
