OT: USA v Jamaica Gold Cup Open Thread

Submitted by samber2009 on

Gold cup quarters= win or go home.

USA lineup: Howard; Cherundolo, Goodson, Bocanegra, Lichaj; Jones, Bradley; Bedoya, Kljestan, Dempsey; Altidore

Subs: Edu, Agudelo, Donovan, Bornstein, Ream, Adu, Hahnemann

I don't like that Landon isn't starting. I'm not sure if this is a time for experimenting. The game  is on FSC at 3pm ET or on feed on concacaf website

EDIT: Landon was at a wedding and got in late.. hence the no start. Thanks for the update.

Close with the bicycle after Sasha almost beats GK with bouncing ball.

Now Sasha puts in a nice cross for Bedoya to head just wide.

He's having his best game for the US in quite a while. Playing faster than he used to.

I hate seeing one of our own players go down with so much unnecessary drama.  You got hit on the nose - there's no reason to collapse to the ground.

I like to think we're above that bullshit.  Nice goal though.

I can see Bradley going defensive way too early with the lead, yet again, and taking off Dempsey for Edu and pushing his kid further forward in attack.

EDIT: I'm happy to be wrong, as it appears Landon is being brought on.  We need to keep attacking against Jamaica.

that stadium. Agudello--on a more pertinent note--looking sharp.

Dive-ola; glad we didn't score on that. Who is that, Lalas: "You know what? That wasn't even close. . ."

Though it works in our favor, that was bullshit.  I'm surprised the Jamaican player put up no fight.

Despite his goal, I'm left with a sour opinion of Jones - given the phantom red card plus his flop on the nose hit.

Not sure if the dishonesty by Jones was worse or the decision making.  If he doesn't go down and runs in four on nothing its got to be an 80% chance of scoring, much more important than a one-man advantage well into the second half.  So it was dumb as well as bullshittey.

The rule is one defender plus the keeper, he was past the keeper which makes it offside.  The linesman got it correct.  Whoever Donovan dropped it to should have teed it up from outside the box.

Dempsey has to be he best US attack player ever.  Who else has established themselves as a premier goal scorer for a team in one of the top couple of leagues in the world?  For all Donovan's success, he was never able to do that in a few tries in Germany.  His last loan spell at Everton looked promising for the first time, but sadly it looks like he'll never get another opportunity to prove that he can do it at the highest level.

Final score- U.S 2-0.

Night and day difference in quality of play from the U.S side when compared to the Guadaloupe game.

Have a great Father's Day everyone!
