OT: Peavy to White Sox

Submitted by Seth9 on
Jake Peavy was traded to the White Sox for four prospects. http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/mlb_trade_talk/posts/72805-padres-agr… CRAP Despite Peavy being on the DL, he is still a huge boost to the White Sox rotation, particularly as his injury is an ankle injury and will likely have no effect once he leaves the DL. EDIT: Actually, the White Sox traded Clayton Richard and three prospects...

One of the prospects is Clayton Richard. And yeah, the Tigers got a pretty good pitcher, but both the Twins and Sox both improved. Would have been nice to get a bat.

Not the end of the world, the MLB Network doesn't think he's coming back until the end of August.

They just had to top our trade didnt they? At least he's hurt and they gave up Richard, it makes it easier to swallow as a Tigers fan.

Peavy is awesome. I have seen hime numerous times and he is always spot on. He is an ace and if he returns healthy, the tigers may have some trouble keeping the AL central. I am a tigers fan and this bums me out a bit, but if the offense picks up we will be in good shape!

This isn't just about this year, though he should be back to help the Sox sometime in August, and I imagine they'll survive until then on guys like Carlos Torres or maybe even Freddy Garcia. The White Sox front four through 2011 is Buehrle-Peavy-Danks-Floyd. That's more than solid, to say the least.

Yeah, def. great move for future direction of the team. If he isn't coming back until late August, he probably will only pitch in 7 or 8 game this season, though he'll probably win a fair share of them.

Great, great move for them in 2010, 2011 and 2012. At best, he gives them 5-6 starts this year. Even then, expecting a pitcher to come off a long term injury and pitch well is a risky assumption. So, for this season, the move does not concern me much. In the following years, though...
