OT: New channel for eSports coverage (as in video games)

Submitted by iawolve on

PVP Live (www.pvplive.net) covers eSports or video games to provide updates on leaderboard activity. They have received new funding and have plans to expand to a sports desk including gamecast updates similar to ESPN (link below).

Admittedly, this seems crazy to me, but I guess there is a niche market for everything out there. I was surprised with a $1B market estimate by 2017 so maybe this is not a bad idea. I wonder how sticky this will be and if you will really track your "pro player's" career since I would assume success in one game does not translate to the next and games to have churn as new ones continue to be released.

Even if it did nothing more than keep track of when tournament or league play for the most popular games of each genre (fighting, real-time strategy, MOBA, shooter), that would be very useful. If they want to video archive matches, all the better.

That being said, if it follows ESPN's business model and becomes the TMZ of e-sports, I'd go back to using Twitch.tv to tell me when matches will be played.
