OT- More evidence of the slow leech sucking like death of traditional media

Submitted by Wolverine In Exile on
Chris McCoskey (nee "Corky" McCoskey as a cub reporter) once again proves the ignorance of "traditional" sports writers... http://apps.detnews.com/apps/blogs/wingsblog/index.php?blogid=3215 If he thinks this "little blog community" is sooo wrong for challenging MR BIG TIME NEWSPAPER GUY on not asking challenging questions to coaches/player/etc, I continue to have my amazement at how the traditional media outlets are going bankrupt decline. I was willing to give him a chance, but I am now officially turning off my Red Wings info spigget from DetNews beat writers. I will now rely solely on Ansar Khan who will regurgitate the same quotes from press conferences as McCoskey, but occasionally write pieces of analysis that don't end with "Well I know and you don't, suck it plebian."

So he makes fun of the "little blog community" and then says "I kind of treat it like a parallel universe, one I am not living in" but yet he rights for the "Wings Blog" on the DetNews Website.

Because someone gave him a laminated badge that says "Press," hanging from a fancy lanyard. That's what makes him important, isn't it? It can't be the penetrating analysis that he brings to his reporting on sports. Because he doesn't bring any. I don't follow hockey, but I'm an avid NBA fan. When McCosky was covering the Pistons, I thought he was a first-rate asshat, and an insufferably arrogant one to boot. He came across like the only person in southeastern Michigan who understood what was happening with the Pistons, but he was just a capitve of the party line from the Palace. For example, when Flip Saunders took over from Larry Brown, it became impossible to ignore his lack of attention to defense. But McCosky not only ignored it, he insisted that Saunders actually devoted more effort to coaching defense than Brown did and that the Pistons were better defensively under Saunders. That was the point at which I stopped paying attention to him. And this is what is going to drive fans and readers away from MSM outlets like the Detroit News. When bloggers like Brian or Chris Brown or many others provide real analysis that explains what happens on the field, no-one will bother with nitwits like McClosky. When the MSM was the only game in town, McClosky could get away with shoveling BS into his articles and columns. But not anymore. I guess he figures that the blog world will go away if he closes his eyes and wishes really, really hard. OK, Chris. Good luck with that.

It all comes back to the old saying: The customer is always right. Most in the media forget that their job is to deliver the news that their customer wants. News on local ongoings, sports, weather, such things like that. They're also allowed to put their own imput on it, hence the freedom of speech and press. But I think somewhere along the line they all forgot that and now they are paying for it. Instead of changing with the times and catering to the customer, they are stubbornly refusing to make any changes. Now they are desperately trying to remain steadfast in their ways by alienating their customers, yet losing more business.

McCoskey is sort of obnoxious, but what would be the point of asking the hard questions at this point in the season? They're not going to be answered with anything other than coachspeak.
