OT: Football Jersey size.

Submitted by The BlackHand on
I just saw some pictures taken from the first spring practice. Besides the obvious (not wanting extra material to be grabbed by defense or offence) Why in the sam-hill are the Football jerseys so dag-gum small? I have to say...it looks like we couldn’t afford jerseys that fit. What would be the rational for this?

You can't set up your argument by conceding a point (here: by stating "Beside the obvious" before alluding to the presumed heightened tacklability of brides in foofy dresses over gymnasts in leotards) and then immediately delegitimize that point--yep, that's right, the same point you just conceded to--as though it couldn't possibly explain all of the logic involved in decisions regarding tight football apparel. Anyway, the jerseys have three critical functions. #1--Color, number, and name the player. #2--Keep said player well ventilated relative to other materials and jersey cut styles. #3--Keep said player on his feet more often by way of a tighter, less tacklable fit. Given that critical function #1 will be difficult for any jersey to fail to satisfy and given that critical function #2 is unlikely to involve material lengths, I believe we are left with a single critical function (#3 for those playing at home) to single-handedly explain why our football team looks like they couldn't afford jerseys that fit.
