01/12/2010 - 12:47pm I believe they came before

I believe they came before the whole vampire craze, however, Twilight was published in 2005, while Vampire Weekend was formed in 2006.

However, the name came from Ezra Koenig's (the lead singer) student film of the same name. The protagonist, Walcott, is on vacation when suddenly, vampires begin to take over the world. Walcott has to go to Cape Cod and tell the mayor about the vampires. In fact, they have a song called 'Walcott' on their first album and it explains the plot.

1. Born in Somerset, KY, raised in London, KY...yeah, you probably have no idea where that is. I lived in Oakwood (Dayton), OH from the time I was 10 til I was 14.

2. I was first ensnared by "The Michigan Difference", when I first started getting into football, around the age of 9. I knew that they had the most wins, a bunch of national championships and were always good. A long while after, looking into more of the history of the school and football team, the town's and school's political ideals, the level of education the school provides, I became a die-hard fan of not only the team but the school. The 2008 season only strengthened my love for the program more.

I really wish they stopped including it...

07/27/2009 - 9:55am Let's

be a little more patient on making predictions for the season. Last season, very few (myself included) weren't predicting that we would have the abortion of a season we did. Look how that turned out. Maybe when fall camp starts for us and the teams on our schedule and we get a good idea of our and their strengths and weaknesses, then lets make a prediction.

About the OP's prediction, improved QB play will help a lot and it may get us 3 or 4 more wins than last season. However, the defense and o-line are going to have to make as many strides as the QBs to get 9 or 10 wins. Special teams as well.

07/26/2009 - 11:06am IME

I don't think that last year even comes close to Michigan's worst season.

In 1934, Michigan went a dismal 1-7, not just that but they were shut out 5 of the 8 games they played, scoring only 21 points all season (and you think we've had offensive struggles).

In 1936, Michigan had the same record, however they were only shut out 3 games, scoring 33 points along the way.

During the 3 seasons between '34 - '36, Michigan lost to Ohio State all 3 times by a combined score of 0 to 93.

Harry Kipke was the coach during this time, who earlier had led Michigan to 2 National Titles. Also, Michigan football's most famous alumnus, Gerald Ford, was the center and linebacker during these years

05/27/2009 - 12:26am Incorrect

Rugby is played a lot faster than football and, therefore, needs faster players.

Bryan Habana (Wing for recent World Cup winners South Africa and 2007 IRB Player of the Year) had a confirmed 100 m time of 10.2 seconds (the same as Denard). Many of Habana's teammates on South Africa's national team have been clocked in at 10.7 or 10.8. Jonah Lomu (Wing for New Zealand from 1994-2005) is bigger than many backs and has a confirmed 10.8 second 100 m (not Denard fast, but still, fast).

If you compared Michigan's football team to it's rugby team, you would probably find a huge speed differential (it's a club sport, anyone can join), but compare the football team to any southern hemisphere or some northern hemisphere's national U-21 squad, the national squad would probably win out in speed most of the time.

p.s. Something that's always bugged me, people always want to compare forwards in rugby to linemen in football. That's not the case. Forwards are physically and athletically comparable to linebackers, except for Locks (they're more like basketball players). But yes, everyone on the rugby pitch has to be fast because everyone gets the ball.

05/26/2009 - 2:09am Pay No Mind

I thought of a rule change to football that wouldn't work...sorry about taking up space.

05/26/2009 - 1:51am Not really

A rugby pitch is 100 meters (100 m = 109.4 yards). Since a football field is 100 yd, we'll just round it up and it would pretty much be like adding another 5 yard line to either side of the 50 yard line. It is wider, however. A college football field is 53.3 yd, a rugby pitch is 68 m (68 m = 74.4 yd).

You are right about turnovers, though. It's not much of a deal to turn the ball over in rugby. Still sucks, but it's not as big of an event, unless it happens at a critical time or close to the goal-line or something like that. It's closer to having a turnover in basketball.
