OT - Ed Hardy

Submitted by Blue_Bull_Run on January 8th, 2010 at 6:10 PM

In another thread, panthera leo fututio made a hilarious analogy to going to a party and seeing a guy wearing an Ed Hardy shirt. It was funny, but then I wondered - what is it about Ed Hardy that screams douche?

This post is semi-serious - where the hell did Ed Hardy come from? I'd never heard of it, and suddenly its all over the place. Moreover, who wears it? Is it just people who want to emulate Jon Gosslin?

I don't really understand the culture/image associated with EH. What does EH try to portray?

Ed Hardy is the Douche Bag's Uniform. I can't put my finger on it either, but it does scream douche baggery more than anything.

A guy I work with once wore an Ed Hardy Shirt, Jeans and Uggs (the Male version)to a party once.....that was the epitome of weird.

Ed Hardy is worn by the guy who wants to be liked by everyone else so he tries to look cool instead of actually being cool and by doing so he wears an ugly shirt to prove it.

All EH needs to be burned. burn, baby, burn.

but I think it now has become almost passe, except for late to the party types. That is why some people clown it.

Where as a fashion plate like me just knows that jeans, a hat and a Michigan shirt are always the height of fashion! :-)

I first noticed Ed Hardy when I was at a TJ Maxx (yeah, I try to buy my stuff at discounts). One time there were suddenly a bunch of racks with tattoo/biker looking clothing. I was like "WTF is that?" and only later did I realize that it's a "premium brand" or whatever.

I don't think I've ever known anyone who wears it, which is why I need to resort to this blog to try to understand it.

Oh, and the idea of an Ed Hardy themed party is hilarious. If I understood this trend better, then I'll bet I'd have such a party because it sounds hilariously ironic.

Where I live the people who wear Ed Hardy is usually Persian guys with copious amounts Aqua Di Gio cologne. I personally don't understand the aesthetic appeal of the Ed Hardy brand.

Shirts like Ed Hardy, Affliction, etc. causes me to have a seizure when I look at them. Affliction doesn't bother me as much because people who wear them are sometimes actually fighters. Either way the whole bro Tap Out thing is pretty annoying in Southern California.

It's been around for 4-5 years where I live. And it stopped being cool 3-4 years ago. It's the same as trucker hats, cool for one minute, not for the next hour. The funny thing is most that wear Ed Hardy also still wear trucker hats.

My friend's dad came to LA to go to the Rose Bowl with us a few years ago and showed up in an Ed Hardy black t-shirt with a diamond-y sequenced skull spanning the entire front of his shirt.

*Shudder*

Opening line: "Hey Christian Audigier, thanks for ruining America, dick".

I think that's pretty representative. In my opinion, they lost any relevance when they started making BlackBerry cases. It's the Von Dutch of the moment.
