OT: Disney News site jabs at Dave Brandon

Submitted by SyracuseWolvrine on November 28th, 2022 at 10:29 AM

Living in an area with a large Disney presence (I know, username does not check out :)), I periodically scan Disney news sites to see what's going on with the company.

This morning, I came across https://unclewalts.com/spotlight/an-open-letter-to-bob-iger/ . They are strongly recommending that Dave Brandon not be considered to replace Bob Iger as Disney's CEO.

There's a few UM references in the article. I particularly enjoyed "Dave Brandon's idea of fun family entertainment is a giant macaroni noodle."

The closing from the letter:

   Sincerely,

The Editorial staff of Uncle Walt’s Insider

P.S. We’re serious. Don’t pick him. Even Meghan Markle would be better.

P.P.S. But don’t pick her, either.

Who could have predicted trying to create a new revenue stream based from the free FEELS you previously gave away would result in waning customer interest and transitioning those who visited frequently to will visit occasionally while concurrently being able to subsidize those same FEELS from home via internet or media stream could go so poorly?

The thought of Brandon as CEO of Disney is pretty mindblowing, but this letter looks like it was written in five minutes.  There are way worse examples of his poor leadership than pizza boxes and a jersey we wore once.

If the Disney board is actually considering someone outside of the entertainment business, and want to poach ex-UM people - then they should pick Jim Hackett. He may not have been a blazing success at Ford, but he does have a solid dependable record and he knows what he has to do and then gets out of the way.

He came in with a primary mission of getting Jim Harbaugh; he did it and then got out of the way.

I'd even take Bill Martin over Brandon - Martin had many limitations as an AD but he does know construction - the renovations of the stadium were beautifully done and we still got to use it during the regular season - that is something only someone who knows the construction business could have kept on schedule. Those of you who go to other stadiums will attest that many renovations look like two different beings tried to materialized into the same space like some horrible Star Trek transporter accident.
