OT: 49ers look foolish, hire Jim Tomsula

He's been with the organization since 2007, and he "won't meddle with personnel decisions," but he has no head coaching experience (unless you include 1 year with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe and one game as an interim in SF). Smart, San Francisco. Real smart.

But hey, your stupidity is our gain.

Whatever keeps Teryl Austin in Detroit for another year is fine by me. Don't even know if he was interviewed but as the head coaching vacancies are getting smaller I think it's a possibility he's around for another year in Detroit

Dan Quinn appears to be the front runner for the Atlanta job and they are willing to wait until Seattle's season is over with in order to continue the interview process with him. Apparently Atlanta was not impressed with Teryl Austin's candidates for coordinators.

This was from an Mlive article, and I don't feel like getting shit on so I won't post it, but that is pretty much all the important info from it.

but we'll have to see what the defense looks like without the leagues best DT playing for a contract on his DL. The secondary (as expected with Austin) had a great jump! Levy was already good but was one of the leagues best this year, IMO. He also had guys like Whitehead & other backup/waiver wire grab LBs looking good (Suh?). The DL was beyond legit even when Suh took a breather here & there. Ziggy is going to be a perennial pro bowl DE, IMO. No matter the position or perceived importance it seemed like everyone in that DL balled out all year. My only concern is we had Suh - already dominant but playing for $100M+ money & Fairley, also playing to get paid after his rookie contract, playing great for the first time until hurt. Suh is gone. We can't afford "the big 3" anymore. Fairley has been injury prone since arriving along with his college era "lazy work ethic until he has to play for his future" tag being true. He was his best until he was lost for the year so do we give him a legit deal? I'd honestly offer him a one year deal of generous but not crazy value WITH a team option for a 4yr "top 10 DT money" contract extension. Basically, up his rookie money for a year but essentially reset the chance to earn big cash. Give him another shot to earn it like last year. If he can't our gets hurt again, you get him cheap or not at all. Ansah is officially the leader of the DL, though. I just want to see an Austin defense with everyone but Suh. You can't underestimate the impact he can/could have on the entire defense. No more using 2-3 guys to block him? Do the LBs see more blockers? Does the secondary get QBs/WRs with more time to setup & connect? Less hurried passes being to be picked off? Suh, IMO, might expose him as just a solid DC rather than a DC so good he should be a HC.

49ers used Harbaugh to get a stadium. they got the stadium now.

Ownership is in it to make money not to win the superbowl so higher a mediochre coach for a few years suck for good draft pics and then maybe when they have peaces again they will higher another Harbaugh and make a run.

Coach really isn't THAT important in the NFL.  QB is the most important thing, and I don't think the 49ers have one that can win a superbowl.

Did it really take this hire to reveal SF's incompetency in their front office? I thought that was made crystal clear during last year's offseason when their discontent with Harbaugh and his winning ways was made public.

saw this on /49ers
This is a man who held down like 4 jobs (chopping wood, insurance salesman, newspaper courier, and janitor) just to provide for his family. He slept in his car because he wanted to pursue a career in football so much and he was passionate about his craft. While he was doing that, he was also selling carpets door to door. I don't know about you people, but this is a maniac I want on my sideline and a man who displays an enthusiasm unknown to mankind for the sport. I am no York apologist, but Jim Tomsula bleeds red and gold. He bleeds football, and I want to give him a chance and see what kind of staff he puts together and where he can take us. He'll certainly die trying.

I live in the Bay Area. I'm still a fan of everything Detroit, but once my kids get interested in sports, I'll probably have to choose a local team to share the experience with them.

I felt kind of bad because I live in the East Bay and was avoiding the Raiders because their organization is so f-ed up. I guess that's not a problem anymore. I only have to take the BART to Oakland for games unless (until) the Raiders leave town.

While the SF meltdown helped us enormously, I think pelople should wait for the shoe to drop before complaining about the other shoe dropping.
