Northwestern vs. Notre Dame
Mike and Mike in the morning compared ND to Northwestern. Saying they both have high academic standards and similar results on the football field over the past ten or so years. ND's past success has put ND fans in a place where they expect a certain level of success and are outraged w/ anything less. NW is proud of what they are and do not expect any love unless they earn it.
Just thought it was an interesting comparison and laughed at Golic and his endless support for Weis and rosy spin on things.

I find it more telling that the comparison was with Northwestern and not M or Texas or a similar school. When you are holding up Northwestern as the pinnacle of academic/football success, you aren't setting the bar very high.

they were basically saying that similar results at Northwestern do not get their alumni and boosters upset to the extent that we are seeing w/ ND. Past success, large alumni base, large following puts ND in a different level of expectations, coverage, etc.

It was not a random comparison. Golic went to ND and Greenberg went to Northwestern.

eh, football-wise anyway. You can't seriously argue that NU is academically inferior.

they aren't saying either one is inferior. they are saying they are similar in academic regards, football performance in roughly the last 10 years and yet the perception of each's accomplishments and direction of the programs is very different.

The "academic standards" excuse for ND is silly. They bring in top-10 recruiting classes every year. I don't blame their fans for being upset. (People sometimes claim that the recruiting gurus overrate ND's recruits to drive up business, but the fact is, ND always produces a lot of NFL talent.) Northwestern, OTOH, is lucky to land a top-30 class in any given year.
